KMail on TDE 3.5.13.2 on Wheezy, all fully updated.
Because my husband had an eye operation today I wanted to enlarge everything in KMail for him. I cannot enlarge the text in the message body. After about ten tries the font changed from serif to sans-serif, but that is all. When I change the message body setting, the headers change, be they long or short - but he doesn't want to read those. The text of the email remains stubbornly tiny.
The date in the message list also fails to change font. The rest changes!
I have tried to have everything fully updated, but am getting:
<normal updating> Err http://ppa.quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net wheezy Release.gpg Could not connect to ppa.quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net:80 (108.166.152.51), connection timed out Fetched 935 kB in 2min 0s (7,762 B/s) W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net/slavek-banko/axis/ubuntu/dists/wh...: Could not connect to ppa.quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net:80 (108.166.152.51), connection timed out W: Some index files failed to download. Suggestions, please! The poor man can't read at the moment - and he now can't easily keep up with his email either!
The eye problem is only temporary, so I would like to solve this fast! I wondered about just reinstalling KMail, but don't want to mess up his mail.

Hi Lisi,
no answer to your question but - when I open a mail in its window I can use CTRL and the mousewheel to enlarge the font to really big size.
And I just tested - it works in the main Kmail window as well.
Hope that helps Gerhard

Hi Lisi, You can use [Ctrl][Shift][+] to enlarge the font (zoom in, in fact), the [+] on the upper keyboard row, not on the numeric keypad. [Ctrl][Shift][-] to zoom out and [Ctrl][0] (zero) to go back to the original size.
For the timeout error when updating from pearsoncomputing, I have the same problem here in Canada since this morning. The server seems to have a problem there.
Hope this helps :-) Pascal

This doesn't work, unfortunately - just as it didn't with the numeric keypad, which I had tried. But thanks all the same. I appreciate the fast reply.

I've had the problem for several days now. Perhaps there is a weather induced problem again with the electricity. :-(

Hi Lisi,
Here's what I did to set a different font and a larger character size in KMail. In the main Kmail window :
*Click on the Configuration menu *Click on Configure Kmail *Choose Appearance (in the column on the left) *Choose the FONT tab *Choose Apply to : Text message (or Body of message) I'm translating as I go since I have a French Kmail *Choose your font name and size, that's it
It works fine for me and it's "permanent".

If this were package foo I would do: # aptitude purge foo && aptitude install foo
but I'm worried about the mail and addresses etc. And if the problem is in the configuration files, backing them up and reinstalling them would just put me back where I am. Still, I think I'd better try it. Perhaps after:
#aptitude reinstall kmail-trinity
and hope!

A couple observations. I do not use deb-multimedia, not sure how much of it you are using ..my experience is it causes more issues than it solves..i.e., I get libdvdcss from vlc.org.
I have my 'Mail' folder located "/home/user/Mail'..not in the ~/.trinity path, there is a setting for this. backups, then mv .trinity out of the way and see if a new one eliminates the issue.
Peace,
