I use Ubuntu Precise with the R14.0.0 TDE desktop on an amd64 system. I tried to install k3b-trinity with apt-get install and then with apt-get -f install. I have never had problems beforehand installing new packages with apt-get.
The reply I get (in French) translates to something like :
+++++++++ Certain packages cannot be installed... The following packages have unmet dependancies :
k3b-trinity : Depend: libk3b3-trinity (= 4:14.0.0-r201-0ubuntu12.04.0+pr34) but 4:14.0.0-s-0ubuntu12.04.0+0 is to be installed Depend: k3b-data-trinity (= 4:14.0.0-r201-0ubuntu12.04.0+pr34) but 4:14.0.0-s-0ubuntu12.04.0+0 is to be installed E: Impossible to correct problems, the defective paquages are in « garder en l'état » mode. ++++++++
My understanding (am i correct?) is that k3b-trinity depends on 2 packages older than what I have on my computer (I checked). So what can i do to install k3b so that I can burn a new tde-live-disk for my "new" hand-me-down laptop?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure I understand this question. I don't recall having set any preferences with apt. I normally use sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -u when adept notifier alerts me that updates are available.
I might mention that I slowly migrated from tde 3.5.13 to 14.0 using Slavek's repository, but as soon as version 14 became official, I chose to stay with the stable version rather than nightly builds, so I switched to the above mentionned ppa's.

Sure - it confirms what I wrote in the previous email. Now there are two options:
1) "Downgrade" packages libk3b3-trinity and k3b-data-trinity to the official R14.0.0 version.
2) Again switch to alternative preliminary-stable-builds source - apt source already contains a few packages for upcoming R14.0.1 == fixes several known bugs.

To "downgrade" (not really but that's what apt thinks) from the Slavek version to the Release version you might try:
apt-get install libk3b3-trinity=4:14.0.0-r201-0ubuntu12.04.0+pr34
You may continue to encounter similar problems until you replace any such foreign versions with actual release versions.

OK, I think my mistake was switching from Slávek's repository to the official one. I took a quick look at my trinity packages and many contain that -s- in the package number, which I think means they are from Slávek's repository, so maybe the best thing to do is to change my sources.list file back to Slávek's repository. Is that what you meant in your number 2 option, Slávek?

So I did just that, Slávek's option #2: changed my sources.list file back to 'preliminary-stable-builds', updated, and then downloaded K3B-Trinity, no problem.
Thank you all for quick responses.

I suppose you previously used alternative apt source 'preliminary-stable-builds' since version 4:14.0.0-s-0ubuntu12.04.0+0 corresponds to the final R14.0.0 version exactly from this alternative apt source.
