Platypus, an impossible creature. Many said TDE would be dead within a year. Now, it's gaining ground to the point, I think, that some are nervous.
And many swore new KDE will work with just few upgrades - it was 10y ago. G. time flies by!
cheers
In the course of my several attempts to migrate from Debian to Devuan, and maybe upgrade to either Stretch or Ascii, I discovered that the new KDE Plasma completely deleted all my personal settings. Even after I
reinstalled,
it took a while to get my KDE desktop looking and behaving right; which in any case, is never very good.
I like to keep another desktop on my system, so that I can always boot up
into
the other desktop, if I am having problems specific to TDE. I think LXDE works better than KDE, but KDE has programs that are sometimes more compatible with TDE.
Every time I use the new KDE Plasma, I get so frustrated that I want to
break
something. The same goes for whenever I have to use other people's
computers,
especially if they run Windoze or the rotten Apple; and it's even worse when I have to use a public computer.
The only thing that worries me is that I am becoming my own island, which is maybe not so good. I am thinking maybe of running a virtual box inside my Linux machine, in which I can run Windoze or the rotten Apple or some other Linux OS, just to keep up a little with changes that are going on "out there".
Thank the Goddess for TDE! I believe I would have given up on computers altogether, if not for Trinity.
Bill
Bill,
I know EXACTLY how you feel. I have to work with crackmonkey clients. Both itblows and snapple. They keep saying how there's SO much more software for them and yet none of it is useful. Just games. Useless file managers (all hail Konqueror, which is aptly named) and the CLI (via konsole).
I do like to run different distros but I only use one for work. Currently Ark Linux 2008 and Ali's BigDaddy. I'm hoping to retire Ark for BigDaddy or Slackware if and when TDE makes it there. I hope to gain enough skill to do it meself.
Cheers and happy father's day to all,
Kate

I doubt that TDE will ever make an official entry in Slackware nonetheless some people have made build scripts or even packages. Here are some:
- http://www.giustetti.net/wiki/index.php?title=TDE_introduction - https://sourceforge.net/projects/tde-slackware - https://github.com/Ray-V/tde-slackbuilds - http://www.inpito.org/trinity.php
I do have my own scripts but everything is installed in /usr/{bin,lib64} and I don't know if they conflict with KDE (which is not installed...)
cheers. @+

Tde-slackbuilds by Ray Vine (previously Thorn Inurcide) seem to be best maintained. This was the reason why I made a mirror to Gitea:

Hi Slávek, Do you intend to provide slackware packages based on ray vine's work or in collaboration with him? @+

I have been using a Windows 10 Pro laptop to avoid potential hassles with the college system and have gotten some modest acquaintance with it; it's also fun to tool around with a different OS.
the impression I get is one is better able to use features of some brand-name printers. this may be useful depending on one's needs. I haven't taken much advantage of it.
I find the privacy settings pretty obscure and I am bedevilled by the automatic upgrades; I find the lack of control abominable -- 'my' PC my butt! I have been able to block 'features updates' with some regedit magic.

never heard of 'BigDaddy' -- fitting for the day! unlike you, I guess I'm kind of monogamous when it comes to Linux. don't do much with the 'desktop' anyway except launch applications.

Got an Epson photo printer here (mostly for the family). There *is* software for Linux but the results are not good. If you want to print a decent picture you have to print form Mac or Windows.
That's about the last thing I can't use Linux for, since kdenlive (almost) replaces Premiere.

OTOH, 20 years back I had one of epsons better efforts for a 4 color inkyet. I shot a couple weddings as the neighbors kids grew up and fled the nest. Gutenprints drivers for the epson C82 were way better than windows drivers, I actually sold a couple album packages, all 8.5x11 borderless and printed on that C82. Sadly epsons have gone to the dogs, my last one clogged its head and refused to clean after 3 weeks, I thru more money at its an bought a brother color laser, and it worked very well until the corona wires hi voltage went away, and I could not convince brother that was its problem. I am a CET and someday when I have clear space on the bench, I'll fix it. Its a good FAST color printer. Expendables are over priced though.

Or if you movie camera is one of the better Sony's using digital hi-8 metal tape, its interface is firewire, and kino is the editor of choice. Why? Because the camera controls are right in the program and they just work.
kdenlive in another 10 years with help from the same author has never grown those controls. All you need is a firewire card, and kino, and you can hand the customer a stack of video cd's or dvd's to put with their other memorabilia, and pass out to kinfolks.
