Hi there.
Programs that sometimes fail to restore across boots: Kate Konsole Konqueror Thunderbird
Sometimes when Konsole restores it forgets the "Paper" schema and reverts to default.
Sometimes the sound starts muted and I have to enable it with kmixer which tells me that I have two mixers, PulseAudio and "HDA Intel PCH".
Maybe that's because I end the session with earphones plugged in and start it with them unplugged, not sure.
I had these problems before upgrading to Buster, but they seem to be happening more frequently recently.
Is there somewhere session restore errors are logged?
Unrelated ping: currently System Guard does not show network speed: http://bugs.pearsoncomputing.net/show_bug.cgi?id=2398

Hi there.
Did some digging, reading ~/.xsession-errors
Over 100 of these: [ 9726.81 ] error 3 BadWindow request 15 minor 0 serial 9621614: "BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)" Maybe 50 of these:
[2019/07/16 05:38:09.940] X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3 Major opcode: 12 Minor opcode: 0 Resource id: 0x2e00003

Evince and all GNOME base applications ignore session management other than gnome, same goes for thunderbird and firefox. Had a lengthy discussen here some time ago.

"HDA Intel PCH" is the underlying ALSA mixer and PulseAudio is layered on overtop. ALSA is the real sound system--Pulse just offers some auxiliary services like easier Bluetooth association, and you may not need it at all if your sound system only involves local wired speakers and/or headphones. (Early versions of PulseAudio were also notoriously buggy, but hopefully you're not running a really old version.)
The automute could be coming from a conflict between the two layers, or from ALSA being unable to save settings on system shutdown for some reason.

Hi there.
I've logged out, renamed my home directory as root and created a new empty directory which I chown'ed to me.
I copied/linked to directories for thunderbird and Google chrome, set up the panel and background as before.
Here's hoping this fixes the problem(s).

It happened again.
I found https://userbase.kde.org/System_Settings/Startup_and_Shutdown#Session_Manage...
It states: To manually save a session, you must first select the "Restore manually saved session" option and "Apply". Then, when you use the "KDE Menu" -> "Leave" you will find that you have a new option - "Save Session".
In DE there is a "Restore manually saved session" option in "TDE Components" -> "Session Manager", which I selected.
When I ended the session there was no "Save Session" option from the Lock/Logout Panel Applet but it's there in the start menu!
I'll give that a try...

And so the saga continues...
+Google Chrome. I added it as an AutoStart to solve this.
Yesterday all my start menu additions disappeared - it was a "Local" menu with Qt, Cura, Arduino...
Today Kate forgot the Alt+Ctrl+F shortcut to open "Find in Files".
To fix it I opened the "Settings" / "Configure Shortcuts..." dialog, went to the "kate" group - no "Find in Files" !?! Opened "Find in Files" from Kates main window, closed it again. Now the "Settings" / "Configure Shortcuts..." dialog has THREE kate groups, the "Find in Files" is in the second one.
I tried entering the Alt+Ctrl+F shortcut and the desktop froze. Alt+Ctrl+F1 switched to terminal one WITH SCREEN CORRUPTION.
Alt+Ctrl+Backspace -> kill X-window session, tried again, happened again.
What file is that shortcut stored in so I can change it "manually"?
