Dear all, the "compress as" submenu in Konqueror is going to have some minor rework. We are changing the default compression format from gz to xz and enabling jar format (which could be useful for java programmers).
We would like to remove lzma from that menu since we think it is not widely used anymore (the format would still be available through the "Add to archive" entry). Any objection on this last point before we proceed?
thanks Michele

Is ok for me. Thank you.
Thierry
I would just comment that gzip is very fast, and "pretty good" at compression. xz is awesome for compression but quite slow. I would consider leaving gz as a default option.

Thanks all for your replies.
Slavek and I are now thinking to offer both gz and xz option in the popup menu, so both options are quickly available. There would be an extra line in the menu, but it still small enough to avoid clutter. Does it sound better?
Cheers Michele

yes it does, and BTW your signature is again showing red

That's strange - I saw a signature from Michele ok == green in KMail.
Cheers

Can you check this last message from him in Knode?
The first message in the thread was OK. The last was red.

No change whatsoever in my gpg configuration during the last week, so it does look strange that sometimes you see ok and sometimes not.... Cheers Michele

Yes indeed, I think libkpgp is not nice at all - I was wondering why it is not using kleopatra as kmail does.
Perhaps I did some harm to it lately - I'll have a look - but it would be good if someone could confirm. Well if no one does, I'll need to set up a reference account :(
For example in this last message the signature was not parsed at all and was visible as text in the message.

Hi all, the default extension was actually supposed to be the last format used, not a default one. There was a bug preventing the last extension to be used correctly. This has now been fixed, so everyone should be happy :-) The last format used for compression will be displayed the next time.
Cheers Michele
