Hello all,
I've been trying again to install TDE on Mageia 3 (following the install
instructions). Most of it seems OK, but the install fails with a message
saying some packages can't be installed because they depend on packages older
than those installed.
The packages in question are trinity-perld-dcop, trinity-tdebindings and
trinity-desktop.
However, I've noticed that links, when installing software from Mageia,
contain a directory "cauldron", and uname -a returns an "mga4"
element. I
associate "cauldron" with a development version, am I right?
So could it be that I somehow got a development version of Mageia? The md5
hash of my DVD is not the same as that given on the mageia site ?!?
I am re-downloading a fresh image from Mageia 3 now, but if anyone has more
knowledge about Mageia than me, I'd be happy for any information about the
version I should install for TDE...
Regards,
Thierry
Yes, Cauldron is the fixed codename of the development version of Mageia.
Currently, Cauldron is the future Mageia 4.
Try to issue the command "lsb_release -d" to see what is displayed.
If you are running stable Mageia 3, you should not see any "mga4"
reference anywhere.
However, only "trinity-perl-dcop" is an actual package. The other 2 are
metapackage, which can not be installed because at least one actual
package cannot be installed.
I'm using Mageia 3 as my primary desktop so I can easily see problems
with this distribution.
The only "trick" that may occur in Mageia during TDE installation, is
that you must enable the "non-free" repositories, because some TDE
programs need some non-free libraries (mostly mp3 and other mpeg stuff).
