Hi,
I am wondering, is Kontact the same thing as KMAIL?
If so, I would rather have a newer version of KMAIL that comes with the Kontact flatpak than the version that comes with TDE.

I'll tell you a story. When we were students we went to a pizza place where they served at noon time pizzas in promotion (reduced price) 5,50 the piece. A friend was looking at the menu and started asking about some exotic pizzas with pineapple etc. The waiter looked at him and said: "Look man, I don't have your dreams. I have what is in the menu!"
I think the same answer applies to your question.
1. you have to distinguish KDE from TDE (the difference is that TDE packages have -trinity appended to them). So kontact is not the same as kontact-trinity and kmail is not the same as kmail-trinity. Trinity is the continuation of KDE3. 2. kontact is an application where you can drive multiple applications like organizer, mailer, etc. So it is not the same as kmail 3. you can not mix up KDE and TDE and I am not aware of flatpak for TDE so assuming you are reffering KDE flatpaks ... see above. We have only what is in the menu.

You know the old men and women sitting in their rocking chair watching the saloon? "The pal might get himself into trouble .." "Oh, please move a bit, I wanna see!"

I have a questions but first the background. I don't use Flatpak or CGroups or anything like them and I don't know anything about them. (If I need process isolation I use a dang-near-bulletproof VM.)
So my questions are:
(1) If someone uses the KDE Kontact Flatpak with a TDE installation, will they be using TDE at all? (2) Is this something inherent in the design or specification of Flatpak or is it a choice made by the pack's creator?

And then all of the programs that I use on a daily basis, install as flatpaks to where I can use some newer, up to date apps.
And of course make THUNAR my file manager... Konq is just bleh...

Hi Chris,
Personally I prefer TDE because it is reliable and doesn't make unnecessary changes.
Preferring newer versions is an equally valid option but I'm wondering if you might be happier with KDE rather than TDE?

I was a HUUUUGE fan of KDE 3!
KDE 3 was the very first Desktop Enviroment that I used when I first downloaded Ubuntu 8.04 / 8.10 out of curiosity.
