Good day everyone,
when I try to open
info:coreutils/dd invocation
in konqueror it fails with this error message:
An error occurred while loading info:coreutils/dd invocation: Could not start process '/usr/bin/perl' '/opt/trinity/share/apps/tdeio_info/kde-info2html' '/opt/trinity/share/apps/tdeio_info/kde-info2html.conf' '/opt/trinity/share/icons/crystalsvg/22x22/actions' 'coreutils' 'dd invocation'.
The mentioned files are all there. I may miss some package which I haven't installed as this is a new system but I can't figure out which one.
Any advice or hint would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Stefan

Until TDE R14.0.4 this has always worked. Could anyone try to enter "info:coreutils/dd invocation" in the location field in konqueror, please, and check if it throws an error, too?
I have no clue where to look. The perl script which konqueror claims to be not able to start ships with TDE and is very old, that is probably unchanged since decades.
When I start this script in bash it throws this error: $ /opt/trinity/share/apps/tdeio_info/kde-info2html '/opt/trinity/share/apps/tdeio_info/kde-info2html.conf' '/opt/trinity/share/icons/crystalsvg/22x22/actions' 'coreutils' 'dd invocation' Can't use 'defined(@array)' (Maybe you should just omit the defined()?) at /opt/trinity/share/apps/tdeio_info/kde-info2html line 154.
I have absolutely no experience with perl, unfortunately.
Any advice or hint what I could do would be very much appreciated.
Kind regards, Stefan

Indeed. Konqueror R14.0.5 (Using Trinity R14.0.5 [DEVELOPMENT]) on Debian9:
An error occurred while loading info:coreutils/dd invocation:
Could not start process '/usr/bin/perl' '/opt/trinity/share/apps/tdeio_info/kde-info2html' '/opt/trinity/share/apps/tdeio_info/kde-info2html.conf' '/opt/trinity/share/icons/kdeclassic/22x22/actions' 'coreutils' 'dd invocation'.

I get this (very close to Nik): Could not start process '/usr/bin/perl' '/opt/trinity/share/apps/tdeio_info/kde-info2html' '/opt/trinity/share/apps/tdeio_info/kde-info2html.conf' '/opt/trinity/share/icons/kdeclassic/22x22/actions' 'coreutils' 'dd invocation'.
By the way, can anyone tell me what I've been doing with this "coreutils dd invocation" (sounds like black magic :)

With konqueror you used to be able to read/browse UNIX info pages, like man pages. For a little more info type "help:/konqueror/man-info.html" in konqueror's address field.
In a shell that would be:
$ info coreutils 'dd invocation'
which launches the "info" programm to show the page for "dd" commande which is part of "coreutils".
Kind regards, Stefan

Bug fixed and pushed. Will be available in R14.0.5.

It will show the man page of dd
Cheers Michele

In the script there is:
150 while (<DIR>) { 151 next if $looking && !/* Menu/; 152 $looking = 0; 153 my @item = &ParseMenuItem($_,'dir'); 154 if (!defined(@item)) { next } 155 my ($MenuLinkTag, $MenuLinkFile, $MenuLinkRef, MenuLinkText) = @item; 156 if ($MenuLinkRef eq $FileName) { 157 &Redirect($MenuLinkFile, $MenuLinkTag); 158 exit 0; 159 } 160 }
Would it make sense to just do what the error message suggests, like this?:
154c154 < if (!defined(@item)) { next } ---
if (!@item) { next }
Kind regards, Stefan

Thanks everybody Stefan

So, there is already a bug report: #2822 and it is already fixed in commit e436f535 (for R14.0.x) just today: 2018-07-25 10:52:48. What a coincidence. I should have been looking before I started to tamper ;-).
Will this patch be in TDE preliminary stable builds (R14.0.5) soon or do I have to wait for the official release?
Thanks, Stefan

It is no coincidence. I saw your first email, remember something about a similar bug and took a look. The fix was easy, so it made it into R14.0.5 just passed the very last minute (we had frozen R14.0.5 yesterday but allowed an exception for this patch).

Yes, it will be in PSB as well. Nevertheless it may take a bit longer than usual for the new packages to appear online, since now pre-build process of R14.0.5 has started on Slavek's servers.
cheers Michele

Alright. Until then I can apply my own patch ;-)
