I was a happy KDE3 user for years, but recently, as part of upgrading Debian I got KDE4. I've tried GNOME and various other desktop environments, but I didn't find anything I liked. Recently someone debian-users mentioned trinity on and it seems to be the desktop environment I'm looking for.
Before I try it out, I would like to know what pitfalls there are in upgrading from KDE4 to Debian. The KDE3->KDE4 transition was a bit messy and I think it's likely that KDE4 has messed up my old KDE3 configuration.
Has anyone else done this and what would they advise? Should I start from scratch with a clean configuration or will it be OK to copy my existing configuration?

Hi!
It's quite painless (compared to the constant itching KDE4 gave me): - remove all KDE4 related packages - remove nepomuk, plasma and akonadi, if they still are present (which was the case wen I did the transition) - install desktop-base-trinity kde-trinity as mentioned in the installation notes. - again remove all KDE4 related packages, as some are pulled in again. Check for possible replacements frome trinity if needed.
