Hello, all :-)
I am building a computer on which I would like to run Wheezy, but with Trinity DE, of course. Is this a feasible ambition given a) my technical ability (or lack of it!!) and b) the existence of you lot?
If so, should I, in your estimation, go for a 3.5.14 daily build or stick to 3.5.13.1? Or would it be more sensible to stick to Squeeze?
Thanks! Lisi

I am testing TDE 3.5.14 (nightly builds) with Wheezy. My new Thinkpad laptop install, 64 bitness, is working fine, I do not use it much at the moment. I have a i386 virtual box instance that has issues with apps crashing on exit. Not sure why the difference in the two installs.
A new computer might require the newer kernel in Wheezy. Check the hardware compatibility.

My main workstation is Squeeze, TDE 3.5.13.1, it is stable and does everything I need. There is no compelling reason for me to upgrade, that has not stopped me in the past, but I am hoping to resist the temptation once Wheezy is released. I have becme a big proponent of long term releases for my business use.
I also use Apache Open Office instead of Libre office, and TDE in stead of ?. This makes for less dependance on Debian, which is unfortunate, since I like the way Debian just works as a system, more work for me.
Hopefully your new computer will have hardware virtualization support in the cpu. Along with more memory you can run multiple instances of whatever systems you need.

Hi Lisi,
for me seems like a good option Squeeze + Backports + TDE 3.5.13.1. I use exactly this combination.

Thanks, Slavek and Greg.
I am only just finally abandoning Lenny and 3.5.10! In the ordinary way, I would have gone straight to Wheezy to avoid yet again clinging to Old Stable like grim death. But using Trinity in a stable manner is obviously more important, since this is my main desktop. (I am reusing my old case, so superficially nothing is changing!)
I don't change hardware often, and aim to do a bit of future-proofing. (I built the recently ousted desktop in 2004!) but it is hopefully OK with Linux. I'll report back!!
But I asked for advice, and am basically hearing what I expected. I'll go with Squeeze+backports+3.5.13.1.
Thanks again, Greg and Slavek.

<snip> Is there any time frame for a stable Wheezy + 3.5.14? Thanks - John

Wheezy itself is not stable, which makes building a stable version of TDE on that platform challenging to say the least.
