I haven't tried archiving a folder yet, and there isn't any information in the Handbook about archiving folders. If I archive a folder, how can its content be accessed afterward?

If you use maildir: just upack it inside your mail folder. Next time you start kmail the mails are visible again. Don't know about mbox format though ...

How are you archiving? From the KMail command? (< sorta guessing this) Or outside KMail through tar or whatnot?

If your just trying to archive (save space through tar, etc.) but need to be able to search the archives, then, while really old, Glimpse/Glimpseindex would work. Explore the -z option of glimpseindex.
Best, Michael

Ah! Very nice. I will have to build glimpse because it is not in any openSUSE repositories, but its prerequisite, agrep is, and that looks very useful as well.
