somehow I clicked on 'keep above others' on one of my applications and I cannot find a way to undo it. I certainly don't want 'keep below others'!

Keep Above Others is a toggle. If you look close, you'll see the button is depressed. Click it again to turn it off.

klick on 'keep above' again unchecks it.
