Hi Some weeks ago I successfully installed R14.04 on Ubuntu 16.06. Now I tried it on different machine. I followed https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/UbuntuInstall and I added deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/trinity-r14.0.0/ubuntu xenial main deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/trinity-r14.0.0/ubuntu xenial main deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/trinity-builddeps-r14.0.0/ubunt... xenial main deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/trinity-builddeps-r14.0.0/ubunt... xenial main sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net --recv-keys F5CFC95C Then sudo apt-get install kubuntu-default-settings-trinity kubuntu-desktop-trinity I was asked to confirm the installation, but then I received an abort! Never happened before. Then I tried Sudo aptitude install kubuntu-default-settings-trinity kubuntu-desktop-trinity Then I obtain
The following packages have unmet dependencies: libsmbclient : Depends: samba-libs (= 2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.9) but 2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.12 is to be installed. open: 29; closed: 151; defer: 4; conflict: 4 .The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

IMO there is nothing that would break the system startup. what happens if you boot in single user or use init=/lib/sysvinit/init
perhaps systemd can't start something and hangs.

The fasted solution is to restart the installation, the question then is, when trying to install trinity and running into a conflict, are there better solutions, than the one offered by aptitude?
Why did apt-get abort?

I use debian - no idea how it works with ubuntu. As you see you were missing a package - open a 2nd console and install the missing package. Exit aptitude and start upgrade again. This is what I would do. I have also never used aptitude, I used apt-get and it worked all the time.

Hi Uwe,
Does the machine boot OK from a live cd ?

It did occur to me that the HDD could have died. I've seen many instances where this has happened during an OS install.
The clue is that the machine runs perfectly from a live CD but fails to write to the HDD.
I use a USB caddy to check HDD's externally. In most cases the disc is not recognised, though I've had some that are but the HDD has been write locked. ie Read Only. In these cases they can sometimes be unlocked using the manufacturers utility.
HTH.

Fortunately it did not (it is a SSD), I made progress which I will describe in the mail to Slavek

Glad that your SSD is OK. I was concerned for a while. Thanks for letting me know.

This conflict points to some inconsistent state of information about packages - libsmbclient and samba-libs are both from the same source package that come from apt source ubuntu-security == the problem is not caused by Trinity packages.
Please check the progress of apt-get update.
Cheers

Ok I restarted the whole Ubuntu 16.04 installation but this time did not select, update packages.
Then I repeated the steps of adding the trinity sources to sources.list and the key run sudo apt-get udpate and then
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-default-settings-trinity kubuntu-desktop-trinity
This time it went better, but I still receive
Get:446 http://es.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 gtk2-engines-qtcurve amd64 1.8.18+git20160112-0cd6aae-1 [154 kB] Fetched 255 MB in 2min 25s (1.756 kB/s) E: Failed to fetch http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/trinity-r14.0.0/ubuntu/pool/mai... Not sure what to do now, shall I try fix missing? I am a bit afraid to mess up again.

It appears to be a problem on your network or at your provider. I did not see any access to the file krfb-trinity_14.0.4-0ubuntu16.04.0+0_amd64.deb at mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org at all. When I use the link you sent in the mail, I see my access to the file in the apache log. Maybe some bad http proxy at your provider? I watched big problems when the connection was via Sophos UTM and its trasparent http proxy.
Cheers

Right, I use a wifi connection which seems a bit unreliable. I tried it some minutes ago and now everything seems fine.
