Why not set them up as tabs in Konqueror (save view profile w/ links)? You could also set them up as tabs in the navigation bar... or add the links to the TDE task bar.
I can't use tabs because I'm in file management view. I tried to add the "links" to the panel but it does not work (these links a special as they let you mount/umount the shares)
It doesn't matter what Konqueror view profile you are using. I'm not aware of any setup where tabbed browsing is not an option. To add links to the side panel, right click tab bar > add new folder > folder then right click the new folder to set Name, URL and Icon.
If you have a functional link on the desktop, that link can be located in any other place that a link to Application or URL is allowed. I don't have any nfs:// links, but my sftp:// links work fine.

Hmm, so it's in the "Navigation panel" that I don't use. If I show the panel I can create a folder and even give nfs://<address> but all I get is a yellow rotating wheel.

Yes, *that* is a *big* Linux problem: any "network" access proposed is ftp, http or Samba. I have tools to access ftp and http, I don't use Samba as I have no Windows around. I do have an nfs network.
Of course mounting the shares is no problem at the command line, I just find TDE's option to mount them from an icon on the desktop (and knowing easily if the share is mounted or not) a great benefit.
Under Gnome I have dock (dash) icons that let me mount and umount with one click, but I loose the information as to what is mounted.
I guess nfs is mostly used to mount server shares from desktop clients, so they are mounted at boot. With laptops I perfer to mount when I need.

Does nfs://<address> work from the location bar? What is the link in your working desktop shortcut?

no
What is the link in your working desktop shortcut?
192.168.1.xx:/<directory>
This link is taken from /etc/fstab and the "shortcut" is a special TDE link (right click on the desktop - create new -> link to device -> nfs)

two more options
Have you tried the applet "storage media" in trinity? possibly adding a panel, autohidable or not, transparent, small etc.... also, you can add a custom menu on a mouse click over the desktop.

I don't know nfs or what's required configuration wise, but nfs://<server>[:port][/<directory] should work.

Do the links show up in Konqueror > Go > Storage Media (Location: media:/) with right click (un)mount options?

does not. ACtually, the : before the /<directory> gets removed

Ha! Yes they do but:
- using konqueror as user when clicking the link, nothing visible happen, but the shares does mount. The same link in Storage Media however can't umount.
- using konqueror as root ("FileManager - Super User Mode") it works, or rather "sort of". I can mount, then umount, then it stops working. Testing further I discovered that I could again mount from konqueror-user, and that in turn made konqueror-root able to umount one of the shares (but not the other). At that point both links on the desktop showed "not mounted" while the shaers where mounted...
I can mention also that the links on the desktop change icon depending on mounted/umounted. Well, they seem to get confused when I use konqueror, showing "mounted" only when the pointer is over them, or showing mounted when umounted.
