Are there tricks to getting system tray icons placed in a desired order?
I am guessing the order is controlled by a "first come first show" placement and the order in which the tools are launched. I presume launching any TDE or user autostart files are done alphabetically.
I have two very similar user accounts for two computers. On one system the system tray placement order of Klipper and Goldendict are reversed from the other system. I frequently use both tools. The icons nominally look similar at least with respect to colors and often I select the incorrect icon.
I could configure some wrapper scripts to create a launch delay of some kind, but that seems like a sledge hammer approach.
Similarly I could choose a different icon for Goldendict.
Thanks.
Hello,
You can configure the placement order in the systray applet settings, just right click on a system tray area not covered by icons or the expander arrow and click Configure.
Keep in mind that currently due to a bug the placement order may not be applied right after you close the configuration dialog and you might need a Kicker restart to see any effect.

Geez, I love learning something useful and helpful. :D
I had to temporarily enable the system tray handlers to gain access to the system tray config dialog. After configuring, logging out and in seems to resolve the placement issue.
A quick check finds the sort order is stored in $TDEHOME/share/config/systemtray_panelappletrc: [SortedTrayIcons]. Easy to log out of the TDE session and sync that group section with other affected user accounts.
So simple and straightforward. I owe you one.
Thank you!
