Hello
I enhanced the RAM of my Laptop to 4 Giga. Right now I am running PAE
mode but I am thinking to switch to 64bit. As I understand it, trinity
is 64 compatible but there is no special 64 bit version? So I am not
sure it is worth the change.

I have it running on 64bit. IMO is changing from 32bit to 64bit not worth
the time you spend on it.

Doing CPU mining of some cryptocoins, I ran the same mining software
(compiled for 32 or 64 bit of course) on 32bit Debian Linux, then
64bit Debian, on the same hardware.
The 64bit mining achieved nearly twice the hashes per second as the 32bit.
If this is true of more than just the mining software, it could be the
reason for the apparent speed-up.
WINE still has only 32bit binaries, which is sad, but I live with that
because of Debian's "multi-arch".

I agree with Nik on this one. Switching to 64 bit does not make as much changes as it
seems to do theorically.
If you are reinstalling everything, you can go for it, but it is not worth loosing all
your ''computer setup'' for that.

My ~/.trinity folder and all its settings transfered just fine from 32
to 64 bits.

These are not my needs. I usually have a couple of applications open at
the same time, like Xemacs seamonkey openoffice. Therefore I need an
efficient administration of the 4 G RAM, and I don't know how is better
64bit or 32bit PAE.

If you have a 64 bit CPU then you may as well use a 64 bit OS.
PAE is great for 32 bit CPUs after Pentium 4 if you have the RAM
requirements.
There are some other things PAE kernels enable but unless you have the RAM
PAE is really not worth the effort on anything less than a Pentium 4.
