Just another example of what most of us here hate:
My Android phone got upgraded to Android 16. When I wanted to shut it down... Long press on the "start" button and you get Gemini AI! You've got to go to the settings and change a "gesture" to again be allowed to turn off your phone.

Another reason to use a Pixel phone running GrapheneOS. (The money-saving trick is to get the most recent "a" version directly from Google at or around Black Friday, then use some public wifi to turn on developer mode. Minimizes the info they can collect. Then you can go home to use the online installer, which works really well.) Unfortunately, it works only on Pixel phones, and the Pixel tablet I'm using to write this.
Your description suggests that they're trying to force their AI on you. No surprise there, though it used to be only Apple that decided everything for you and you had no choice in the matter.

I think you misspelled "downgraded".

Another good way to switch it off is to hit it with a large hammer.

I wouldn't call it "good". The fun didn't last long. Wear a face shield if you try that method. My sister gave me a new in box Moto G I didn't ask for. After several months of frustration with its behavior, I tried a two pound sledge. Second hit made the battery explode into torch-like blaze that could have killed an eye if a piece flying off of it had hit one instead of my arm. It left a black spot on my driveway, but stayed quiet thereafter. :P

But be sure you kill it -- they are even more dangerous when they're wounded.
