Hi all, Having tried out Q4OS I am interested in trying the "pure" TDE on Debian stretch. I have read the Wiki instructions on how to do so. I don't want to duplicate programs from another DE when I add TDE. Is there a best option for a pre-existing DE on Debian when adding the TDE so as to avoid duplication etc ?

The simple answer, there is no duplications, TDE adds only Trinity apps.
Installing Debian there is the option to not install a DE during the install. I install "base + standard" then follow the directions on the wiki.
I have standarized on TDE so having only one DE is my preference. I add non Trinity apps (+depends) as needed.

Thanks Greg,
Your suggestion as to how to install Debian worked.
Because I installed Stretch I had to follow the wiki page https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/Preliminary_Stable_Builds
Adding the repos to the sources list went fine but now I am stuck on trying to install the GPG key - I keep getting "connection refused" from keys.gnupg.net keyserver.

I had to intall "dirmngr" to get "apt-key" to work. It is not part of base + standard utils tasks.
"apt install dirmngr"

Thanks - I had already installed dirmngr . Still couldn't get the GPG key. After a bit of googling I found a similar issue where the solution offered was to ping keys.gnupg.net and then to replace keys.gnupg.net with the IP address identified in the ping output when using the apt-key adv command.
This worked for me - although I am not entirely sure why. I presume that some GPG related package was not included in the Debian base+standard utils install.
Trinity desktop now installed and running

Cool, for the archives,\
I noticed after my "dirmngr" repone that it is a part of the "intallation instructions", havee not read them in some time :-)
The instruction to install the key ( keys.gnupg.net keyserver) worked here on a new base + standard, thankfull for interent search.

Thanks Slávek. Thought I would give this a try . It did resolve mirror.xcer.cz but the connection then timed out over 5 tries. Perhaps someone else might try this in case for some reason my IP address is a factor ? Ping mirror.xcer.cz also failed. I do have a working internet connection as ping google.ie (my country Google domain) was absolutely fine with no packet loss Padraig

Hi all,
please excuse the unavailability of mirror.xcer.cz. Wind storm in Europe and Czech Republic caused power outages and various other problems. As a result, mirror.xcer.cz is also unavailable. We hope the Internet provider will resolve the problem soon.

$ ping mirror.xcer.cz PING mirror.xcer.cz (91.241.23.210) 56(84) bytes of data. From 10.2.252.114 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
Here from Berlin, Germany. However, "10.2.252.114" looks suspicious to me, because netrange 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 is a private address usually used by internal networks of big company IIUC, i.e. my provider. When I ping the Freie Universität Berlin, I get this:
$ ping 130.133.4.195 PING 130.133.4.195 (130.133.4.195) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 130.133.4.195: icmp_req=1 ttl=52 time=24.6 ms
I don't know if anything of this is relevant to your problem. At least I can confirm, that I'm not able to ping mirror.xcer.cz.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Stefan

Thank you. I would have exspected that to be the individual IP address of my computer, because I executed it on my system. I guess it has been changed through the networks of my internet provider.
Anyways, it is now clear that the problem addressed by the OP was that mirror.xcer.cz was actually down. Understanding the internals of ping is beyond the horizon of my expertise.

I get a 403 trying to follow the axis* instructions for Stretch on https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/Preliminary_Stable_Builds
And, the instructions on https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/DebianInstall still indicate "no official version of TDE available" for Stretch. Is this still correct?

Yes, the instructions are still valid. Repository for Preliminary Stable Builds was only temporarily unavailable. Now is again properly available.
