So - 10.04 is only a month away - will there be kde3 packages again? Tim, do you need any help, testing, ...?
Since I have already installed Ubuntu Lucid on 2 of my computers that run KDE 3.5 from Karmic I would be also interested in a Lucid version and can also help you testing.
I can say that KDE 3.5 runs also on Lucid, but I had to switch from kdm-kde3 to gdm.
In KDE 3 I discovered only 2 problems: 1. The logout menu offers me only a logout button. Buttons for restart, shutdown, suspend to RAM, and suspend to disk are missing at the moment. I suppose this is because I'm using gdm instead of kdm, isn't it? 2. After the start of KDE 8 error messages appear. I cannot remember the content, but they all have the same content, and it wasn't something critical.
Apart from this KDE 3 runs very good on Lucid.

Correct.

The more kde3 related packages you install the more you'll risk finally tearing holes in the dependencies plus path problems.
This is far from a clean solution and once we have kde3 packages you probably should reinstall to avoid future problems.
My 0.02.
Hi Dexter,
This PPA contains the current SVN builds for Lucid: https://launchpad.net/~kde3-maintainers/+archive/trinity-svn-nightly
I'm still fixing bugs (if you'd like to help, just look through the bug list at http://bugs.pearsoncomputing.net ;-)) . When release date is a bit closer, I'll rebuild and copy the packages over to the main KDE3 maintainers PPA and generate the LiveCD images.

Hi,
right now there's been so many reports about trouble with 10.04 that I'll rather wait a bit till the smoke clears and then go for an upgrade. Got a xubuntu 10.04 laptop set up freshly tho which could need some packages, most of all kaffeine, I will sure tinker with those.
Dex
Hence the release date being pushed back a week or two. ;-)
By the way, do you mean trouble with KDE3 on Lucid or just Lucid trouble in general? KDE3's been pretty solid under Lucid for a while now...

Lucid in general. I just ran into a laptop showstopper, after a resume the mouse pointer is invisible... All sorts of other stuff, too. Think they rushed it too hard for an LTS.
Drew kaffeine from your ppa, doubt it's gonna give me trouble after being matured for so long.
