I just installed Debian 6.0 (Squeeze) on my laptop. I wanted to go with the latest, but I also wanted to replace KDE with Trinity.. is this possible, and if so, where do I start?

Although I believe you will want to replace ppa.quickbuild.pearsoncomputing.net/ with mirror.its.uidaho.edu/pub/
Hope that helps - John

wow, that message is 2 weeks old... and I already installed trinity per the Pearson web site.. a few problems with wireless, but otherwise functioning! I could not get wep or WPA working with my 2915 ABG wireless card, other than that, no complaints:)

firmware-ipw2x00 (debian non-free) is required for my 2915 ABG
A really good tool for first-off configuration is ceni. It's not in Debian (yet) but mepis has it, works here on Squeeze.

Well done for purging kde4!
Don't forget the Debian bizcard install method, you get just the base then install the rest manually. You can use smxi for most of it. Cuts the bloat and the gnome/kde4.

yes, I am well aware of that.. my Dell laptop is 4 years old, and I've had to install the firmware a number of times..

This is my first squeeze install, I am not familiar with Ceni..

never really installed it, though i DID install Squueze, the FIRST thing I did was install LXDE then trinity:)
that was the whole purpose of installing Squeeze on my laptop, so I could play with Trinity.. I am running Lenny on my desktop, and I DO NOT want to mess with my wifes KDE 3 setup right now:)

You did say you wanted to REPLACE kde with trinity on squeeze (kde-squeeze=kde4)
My apology if I misinterpreted your original post.
Re: the wlan card : Nothing to do with Trinity at all, just I have the same and that's how I configure it.

yes, you are correct.. but, I never really USED it, it just came with the squeeze install:) the whole point of installing squeeze ( for me) was trying out trinity..
My apology if I misinterpreted your original post.
no, you got it right..
Re: the wlan card : Nothing to do with Trinity at all, just I have the same and that's how I configure it.

I added the following to my sources.list, Debian Squeeze here also. The trinity packages have '-trinity' atrtached to the the package name, otherwise same naming as KDE3. i.e. 'kdebase-trinity'
deb http://mirror.its.uidaho.edu/pub/trinity/trinity-builddeps/debian squeeze main multiverse restricted universe
deb http://mirror.its.uidaho.edu/pub/trinity/trinity/debian squeeze main multiverse restricted universe

I have previously done a basic install and added a GUI and the other things that I want to use. To get KDE3 in Lenny I did:
aptitude install kde
So, provided that I have edited my sources.list appropriately and updated, can I just do:
aptitude install kde-trinity
? Lisi
