I only use konqueror with the file management profile. When I open a new
tab the file pane contents are always empty -- blank.
Is a empty/blank page normal or do I have something misconfigured?
I am guessing the blank page is a carry over from web browsing. The only
related configuration I could find is Behavior->Home URL, which I have
configured to $HOME (actual file path and not env. variable). I would
think that one way or another a new tab would list the contents of that
path.
I use Tree View all the time. Curiously, when the new empty tab appears,
the View->View Mode menu shows 'TDEHTML' and not Tree View.
Methinks I have something mucked up somewhere. Where to look?

You can set it up the way you want it, then Settings / Save View Profile.

I might fire up my KDE 3.5.10 VM and see what happens.
The blank tab is not the end of the world. Just looks odd for a file manager.
Assuming you are running Konqueror as a file manager, go to Configure -> Behavior and
set your startup folder in "Home URL"

Changing the Home URL: text to different directories makes no difference.
Interestingly, when typing Home URL:/home/user the konquerorrc file shows:

Make sure you are saving and loading the correct profile as well, since Konqueror comes
with a number of profiles in
first place.
about:blank is basically saying "empty tab", that is basically what you would do
in a browser too if you want an empty tab.

save the session: left-click on the startup menu to find it. (I am using the

You will of course do things differently, but save session preserves my
startup system as I want. Been doing it like that since before TDE, back in
the KDE3 days, nearly 20 years now.

I don't know. Must be something obvious right in front of my nose that I
am not seeing. Hopefully one day the proverbial light bulb shines and I
see the light.
