Whenever I reply to posts on the Trinity list (where we're obligated to bottom-post) I have to backspace over the multiline footer that's quoted by kmail. Is there an easy way to automate that? It doesn't look like a filter setting will handle that. Or maybe the footer needs to be preceded by the standard deliminator https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signature_block#Standard_delimiter so that (hopefully) kmail will strip it off from a reply as described?

In the mailman settings, I can adjust the footer of the mailing list to be preceded by a short signature block mark instead of the current series of underscores. Or put there both - add a short signature block mark and leave a serieas of underscores for the optical separation of the mailing list information.
What is your opinion?

It's ok for me as it is.

Without exploring what KMail can actually do, maybe this?
====TDE-FOOTER-BEGIN==== tde-users mailing list -- users@trinitydesktop.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-leave@trinitydesktop.org Web mail archive available at https://mail.trinitydesktop.org/mailman3/hyperkitty/list/users@trinitydeskto... ====TDE-FOOTER-END====
Basically anything that gives a clearly and specifically defined block for logic to work on.
Best, Michael

KMail can use the signature block mark and automatically cut off everything behind it. A while ago, I modified the automatically added footer so that there is a signature block mark so it could work as intended.

Mailman seems to automatically cut off "extra" spaces at the end of lines when inserting a footer. Therefore, adding a "-- " to the footer template does not seem to be the solution. Later I will try to see if there are any other options.

For these two posts you just sent, kmail does indeed strip off the footer when I reply.

There it depends on whether the user has a signature attached so that there is a signature block mark. If so, KMail strip it, including the footer added from the mailing list.

Hi Slavek, for your info, some of your replies to the list in Thunderbird look like this:
1) empty body 2) footer displayed 3) no sign that there is an attachment anywhere.
When I try to forward the email, the real body shows up as attachment. Probably a Thunderbird thing, but it didn't happen before
Cheers Michele

FYI: As we discussed and tested with Michele, the issue of incorrect display of GPG signed mail was probably a problem in Thunderbird 68.x or Enigmail extension.
