There is a problem (bug) with the settings for icons, in that I cannot set them. On my own computer they simply don't display, no matter how many settings I tick in the behaviour setting. I rarely use icons so this is a very minor problem.
But I am setting up an installation for a client who relies on icons. He will be most upset to have the wrong ones.
I go through ticking and unticking the boxes for the various hardware and files, click on "apply", and nothing changes, except that all the settings return to the default. The icons I want to get rid of remain and the ones that I want to show remain stubbornly invisible.
Has anyone any suggestions for what I can do about this?

Are you are talking about icons on the desktop and you want to change the behaviour with the desktop contextmenu that comes up when you do RMB on desktop and select ".. configure ..."? If yes, then you should try to change the desktop settings via the control center. Somehow the dialog that comes up when selecting it by the context menu does not work, but the same dialog in the controlcenter does.

Thanks, Nik :-) Sadly, it doesn't work on my box, but it may do on the client's box, which is far more important. I can't check for the moment because it is busy copying a large directory from backup.

Thanks, Nik. You have saved my bacon. The client was reluctant to have his box updated in case anything went wrong.

Good to hear it worked :-)

I seem to remember something similar on this list; it might have been a bug. What version of TDE are you installing for your client?
Thanks!

Lisi, this problem is reported as a Bug 1648?

Nik's workaround appears to have worked on my client's box - cross your fingers that it will at least show his camera!. It shows the external drive on which I have got my backups of his system.
