This is something of a change in topic: Does anyone know of any webmail providers, with less spyware and ads, as alternatives to gmail? How do Hotmail and Yahoo compare? Or even an internet service provider? Formerly I used an ISP account, but it turned out to be blocked in China, where I travelled often. Robert

Traveling in China, you might have to get acquainted with Tor, although finding a tor gateway in China might, probably will be difficult.
I've zero experience with it myself as I am in the continental US where the net is fairly free of such restrictions.
