I'd like to make it the default, but everytime I click a link in konqueror, it launches anothercopy of mozilla.
So how do I make konqueror the default?

Running Devuan Jessie, but maybe close enough.
Myself, I never use Konqueror to browse the web, as I find it more useful as file manager. But since you asked, I looked under the hood, and there is no "standard" way to set it as default web browser (that is, like the "click me" button that you see in Mozilla browsers).
1. Check settings & profiles, where you can have separate profiles for web browser and file management. You want to create a profile for web browser, where you decide about how to configure it for use online.
2. Find an html file inside one of your Konqueror folders. Right-click and choose "open with", but (even if you see Konqueror in the list), go all the way to the bottom and choose "other", then choose Konqueror, and check the option "always use Konqueror" for such files.
That is probably the best you can do from inside Konqueror's gui. Maybe there is a command-line way to make it default? Somebody else out there may know how to do that, and it would be good to know, especially if we can apply it to other browsers and programs.
3. Find a better web browser. (Again, you probably have your reasons, but ... but ... ) Midori, Netsurf, Qupzilla, Arora, Seamonkey, PaleMoon, Lynx, Links2, Elinks, Dillo, Epiphany, Icecat, Tor Browser, Conkeror, Xombrero. And I haven't even got into the proprietary, non-free browsers like Vivaldi, Chromium, etc.

One way to file associations is settings > configure konqueror. Type in html (click text +, then html) and move konqueror to the top of the list.

Gene, open the control center and go to "components"->"standard applications" there you find "Web Browser" I translate from my locales, but I am sure you will find your way.

I think I found it. And just for S&G, I went thru firefoxes about:config restoring all the javascript options to the defaults. And its running a lot better now. I must have been turning off stuff I thought I was enabling. So much for easy to understand english in a browser written by contributors from all over this ball of rock.

TCC / TDE Components / File Associations / text / html & TCC / TDE Components / Web Browser
You can find the rest from there. Sorry I didn't list these in my earlier response; just occurred to me. I have gone digging round in Konqueror since about Hardy 8.04.2, so about 2006-2008?
