Hi all!
I just ran into an interesting problem on rasperrypi: I cannot mount any flashdrive using TDE. udisks2 is installed, my user in group "disk". I get:
"org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 127"
Does anybody know what "Launch helper" this refers to and/or what I can do to solve this?
Nik
uninstall tdeio_media_mounthelper. It's always causing problems.
Log out, back in and give it a go.
Good luck human,
Kate
PS let me know it that worked for you too.

Hi Kate, you shouldn't uninstalled that, really. You will miss out on additional functionality. I can't speak for R14.0.x with 100% awareness, but in R14.1.0, tdeio_media_mounthelper is very important to be able to mount/unmount/unlock/lock disks from various part of the DE. Problems with udisks2 are at a lower level. They may get highlighed by the use of tdeio_media_mounthelper, but removing tdeio_media_mounthelper is not the right solution, jsut a workaround maybe :-)
Cheers Michele

Hello Michele,
It is just a workaround since I could never get it to work. I don't miss any of the added feature. It would be nice to have them but not worth the trouble. Perhaps when the problem with udisks2 is repaired.
Thanks for the concern, you are right, of course, but best I can do for now.
Kate

As I'm on 14.1 I cannot remove tdeio_media_mounthelper. Despite that, it's working perfectly fine on all older installations, so I assume "something" is missing with that darn GNOMEish org.freedesktop.....-stuff. Just how do I find out what's going wrong?

Hi all, as further info, in R14.1.x tdehw lib and tdeio-media (including tdeio_media_mounthelper) has received a lot of attention and there are several changes compared to R14.0.x. tdeio_media_mounthelper works pretty much flowlessly in R14.1.x but as I mentioned earlier I am not 100% sure how good (or how bad) it performs in R14.0.x. The problem is eventually not tdeio_media_mounthelper itself (which doesn't do much other than making DCOP calls) but the underlying invoked code.
Cheers Michele

14.1 works like a charm on my thinkpads and desktops - same version as on raspberrypi. I tried to get a hint with
$ strace -f /opt/trinity/bin/tdeio_media_mounthelper -f -m media:/dev/sdb 2>&1
but this does not give any hint on what went wrong :/

Ok, in response to myself:
tdeio_media_mounthelper calls udisksctl which needs libpolkit-gobject-1.so.0 which is not installed by default. Installing libpolkit-gobject-elogind-1-0 solves the problem, mounting and unmounting now works like a charm.
Looks like an upstream problem to me: udisksctl is in package udisks2 but that does not have "libpolkit-gobject-elogind-1-0" as a requirement.
Anyhow, could TDE work around that problem and include "libpolkit-gobject-elogind-1-0" in the list of requirements alogside "udisks2" ?

Ok reinstalling tdeio tonight along with libpolkit-gobject-elogind-1-0 Report tomorrow.
Thanks for the info Nik
