I have always wanted to try BSD, but I never found an image that also included installing a GUI like Linux. Is there a BSD image/LiveCD-DVD somewhere that also installs TDE as the desktop?
Debian also offered a FreeBSD install image with GUI at one point, but it is no longer offered as of Debian 8.

Nop. And there aren't binary packages, so you have to build by hand.

Debian unseland + BSD Kernel was killed when the priests of systemd took over. Despite the effort that went into it this project never took off - one might say that after the SCO trials the whole point of the project just disappeared.

Unfortunately not. There are "derivatives" like GhostBSD but it uses MATE and I don't recommend these derivatives anyway. For the time being, you have to clone Slavek's port and build the DE manually.
I've talked to people in *BSD rooms on Matrix about getting TDE officially ported to the FreeBSD Ports Collection, but this would be a large effort.
