Hi, under Control center->Appearance->Fonts, I see e. g. "Sans Serif". If I click on Select, it is between Penguin Attack and Sazanai... But if I look under Control center->System Control(?)->Font installation, it is not in the list. So, where does "Sans Serif" belog to?

Probably it was/is at the top of the list. Other fonts in the otherwise alphabetic list are real font names...
So, where does "Sans Serif" belog to?
...It's a generic name applied to the default font name of that type at the global system configuration level, probably somewhere in /etc/fonts.
Hi Felix and Tiago, thanks for the answers. I chose FreeSans now, which looks better for me than SansSerif.

As Felix said, this is a default sans serif font for the system, like Arial, Liberations Sans, DejaVU Sans or, more commonly, Bitstream Vera Sans.
