| Go into kcontrol, the GTK Style and Themes under appearance, and play
| with the settings until it works. The problem is you are using an
| incompatible theme to "retheme" the the application UI. For gtk2, I use
| qtcurve. For gtk3, I use default. That's works well for me. However, I
| can't say this will for you but it's a starting point.
Thanks very much but no joy. I've now gone through every one of the
available themes for each of them (though I did not try all possible
combinations). Same crash for each. Alas.

Add more gtk themes. Then try again. If that doesn't work, remove it. You
really don't need it.
