So I tried setting it back to jessie, but all that got me was a sea of red or outright refusal to even mark it for install.
Stretch has been out for quite a while, so whats the magic potion folks?

Did you set up apt source for Preliminary Stable Builds? Here is the Release file properly as it should be. See:
http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity-sb/dists/stretch/

No, didn't know I was supposed to... Printed, I'll see about doing that when next booted to stretch. If I have to make the debs, this looks like a half day project for this old q core phenom.
My youngest and his woman just called from the motel, said they'd grab a bite and take a shower, then be out for an hour or maybe 2. 38 some hours on the road so I'd imagine he's low on sleep. They won't be headed back west till wed morning so I don't expect to have any extended periods of time to tinker with this till the middle of the week.
Thanks Slavek
Take care now.

From the TDE installation instructions:
"TDE R14.0.4 For Stretch (Debian 9.x), although it is already released, currently there is no official version of TDE available, although TDE runs smoothly in Stretch. If you are interested in installing TDE in a Stretch environment, you can use the preliminary packages for the next R14.0.5 release. Please refer to the Preliminary Stable Builds page for further instructions."
I can confirm this works very well (at least three installs here on various hardware)

I've tried a few times to install the stable builds from Jessie on ascii/stretch and have failed. But have not tried using the source packages yet and that's something to try for another day.
As Slavek has said the preliminary builds work swell.

I was wondering, is this repository is still active? (I am still using Jessie.)
deb http://mirror.xcer.cz/trinity-sb debian jessie deps-r14 main-r14 contrib non-free deb-src http://mirror.xcer.cz/trinity-sb debian jessie deps-r14 main-r14 contrib non-free
Not too long ago, I was downloading packages from these URLs, but now when I do apt-get update, I get a message that says it is not found.
So would these lines be correct to add to my sources list? (I mean, for when I upgrade to Stretch.)
deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity-sb/dists/stretch/ deps-r14 main-r14 contrib non-free deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity-sb/dists/stretch/ deps-r14 main-r14 contrib non-free
Also, am I able to change Stretch to Jessie to use for the time being? Somehow I am still using Trinity 14.0.4 rather than 14.0.5. I cannot find the repositories for the newer versions of Trinity packages, although the old ones work pretty well.
I've search the Trinity pages for repositories to add to my sources.list, but haven't found the newer packages.

Both repositories are still active. In your example you have mistakenly components 'contrib' and 'non-free'. There are valid only components named 'main-r14', 'deps-r14' and possibly 'extra-r14'.
The original http://mirror.xcer.com/trinity-sb is managed by my colleague so in case of complications I have to report to him. For Stretch is the correct entry:
deb http://mirror.xcer.cz/trinity-sb stretch main-r14 deps-r14
The new http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity-sb is located on a more official address, and at the same time I manage it myself (excluding hardware). For Stretch is the correct entry:
deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity-sb stretch main-r14 deps-r14

Thanks! I believe I was trying to guess what were the components based on other Debian repos. I will correct those entries.

Hi Slavek,
I'm not sure why a separate mirror is being used for PSB. Will this be replacing the existing TDE international mirror network and redirector?
I ask as the admin of the primary mirror of the current TDE network. We pull direct from *.pearsoncomputing.net and the other mirrors replicate from us. This currently includes 3.5.13 and r14 stable along with their builddeps, and the old nightly-build-dependencies. However nightly-build itself was removed a while back and PSB has never AFAIK been on the redirector/mirror network.

Hi Mike,
the Preliminary Stable Builds repository has been created from its very beginnings as completely independent on QuickBuild and the related infrastructure. After all, the initial reason was to try to help during outage of QuickBuild due to technical problems - see the emails from that time:
http://trinity-devel.pearsoncomputing.net/?0::13246 http://trinity-users.pearsoncomputing.net/?0::5901
Therefore, package creation - compilation - publishing, everything is done on the infrastructure independent of QuickBuild. That is why Preliminary Stable Build from the very beginning is not a part of the official primary Trinity server. That's why the repository is signed with my gpg key instead of the official Trinity gpg key.
At the same time there are side benefits. Preliminary Stable Builds provides some additional architectures - mips, armhf also for Ubuntu. It is less demanding to add support for new Debian / Ubuntu distributions.
Some time ago, I and Tim had agreed to place Preliminary Stable Builds repository directly to the official Trinity redirector, which is under my control - mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org. That's why Preliminary Stable Builds repository is for the first time on more official location, although are still being created independently on QuickBuild.
However, this does not mean that it would be a replacement for an official repository. The final releases will continue to be prepared and published using QuickBuild.
By this I wanted to clarify the historical context and current state.

Hi Slavek,
I just switched from xcer to ppa.trinitydesktop as recommended. Both appear to be receiving updates and are equivalent for current files on the arches I need but there seem to be an unexpectedly large number of differences in other files. Are deletions synced?

Hi Mike,
at mirror.xcer.cz, colleague has not yet made the removal of distributions that are no longer build for Preliminary Stable Builds. Therefore, packages for these distributions are still available on mirror.xcer.cz. While on mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org is cleaning old packages more actively. This is why the content may vary. Both of these mirrors are synchronized from my main server using apt-mirror. Therefore, removing old packages can be done differently on each mirror.
If you want to synchronize Preliminary Stable Builds repository to your mirror, I can setup rsync on mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org. Would it be useful for you?
Cheers
