Hi everyone!
My PCLinuxOS TDE non-official remaster version 2014, April 30 is ready to download!
I call it non-official because it doesn't come from the PCLOS team and since it contains software coming from outside of their repos, it is also not supported by them. It only has a special ''permission to exist'' from the PCLinuxOS dev team.
It can be seen as a whole as the much-loved PCLOS 2007, but fully updated and upgraded. It is a complete system that can be used as a LiveDVD or it can be installed (from the LiveDVD).
New on this release: -Fully updated PCLinuxOS 2014 base system -Based on stable TDE 3.5.13.2 -A theme switch Zenity script to let the user switch between the more modern theme I use and TDE Classic theme, to please more users. -A SuperKaramba theme pack -XBMC media center and wine are new apps included on the DVD
On this LiveDVD: -Tons of TDE software and major apps like LibreOffice, Firefox and Gimp
Login info (on the LiveDVD): Regular user:guest Password:guest Super user: root Password:root
System requirement: A x86 computer with at least 384mb of RAM. It is a 32bit system, but it can be installed on a 64bit system too.
Download link: PCLinuxOS_no_TDE_remaster_30avril2014.iso 1.99 GB https://mega.co.nz/#!bkgRCKpa!HMakiQTlomIlq9I3O-8Ib117XeAOP4qwKo91FDjfFrg
Please note that you will need to install the MEGA Download Manager Firefox (or Iceweasel) plugin to download a file of that size. If you are unsure about itd, you can uninstall the plugin right after the download.
Md5 Sum: 477ebac6c6021a8498ea4cb1f32473e7
If you like what you see, you can consider giving some money to the Trinity Desktop Environment project!
Give me your comments! -Alexandre
Thank you. Downloading now will let you know how it goes. I have a slow connection won't finish before I go to bed sadly.

Hi all!
I'll look at uploading it to FileFactory tonight, just as the other releases. It looks like it is more reliable. If you want the Md5 Sum, look at the release announcement(the first message), it is there!
Thank you very much! -Alexandre
Hi all!
Here is just a few screenshots to show you how easily my remaster can change all the theming from Classic TDE defaults to the theme I use, so that users who prefer the more classic one can choose it easily. There is an icon on the desktop with a script that will guide you to change the theme just as you like it.
Thank you very much! -Alexandre

Only if you use Iceweasel or Firefox. You can always do what I did and use a different browser!
Downloaded Alexander. Not yet checked or burnt. I shall have a good look. What you are doing is great. A pity that you don't also do 64bit - but then you see the merits of TDE differently from me. ;-)

Running live and I have noticed a couple of things. The OpenGL screensavers don't work, I think they are missing a package but I haven't had time to figure out which one.
I went out to clean the yard and when I came in (2 hours later) the back light was on but I had no picture and nothing I did got it back had to reboot.
The xscreensaver-gl package is missing the screen savers work after installing that

Hi,
Thank you for the missing package for screensavers! I have to admit that I always turn off my computer when I don't use it, so I never see the screensaver... I'll take note of that for the next release.
Can you test XBMC Media Center please? If it runs as it should, it means that your video drivers are (mostly) running as they should. If it says that you need composition to use XBMC, it means that you are probably running on failsafe video drivers, such as VESA or Frame Buffer. These drivers sometimes has trouble with power saving features. You can always try to go in the PCLinuxOS Control Center to tweak your video driver, but it might mess your setup too... It might also mean that PCLinuxOS doesn't support correctly your video card, and since it's the base system, I can't do much about it.
Lisi, I'm quite pleased that you take some time to try my remaster! So, let me know what you think! I also didn't know that other browsers had the necessary plugin to download large files from MEGA! Is it Chrome (or Chromium)? Firefox has always been the king for me, but there are other great browsers too!
-Alexandre
So I tested XBMC it works fine although there is a lot of tearing in the video but both VLC and Kmplayer run tear free. I bought a Sandy Bridge Laptop with Intel graphics so I wouldn't have to play with video drivers. I have also received a reboot on this version old one never did that was running live so no log files to tell you what it was. I am pretty sure it wasn't heat the laptop didn't feel warm at all.

I doubt that I shall have much time tomorrow, but I'll certainly let you know when I have looked at it. If I don't manage in the near future, and I may not (it counts as hobby time!) it won't be for a couple of weeks.
We are off to France in the middle of next week. \o/ \o/ We are spending a week in St. Malo, and travelling as foot passengers on the ferry. So no cars and no planes. \o/ Unfortunately, there are no day-time ferries to St. Malo, so we have to go over-night. Pity. We love the ferry journey in the day-time, and would rather do our sleeping in a French hotel than on the ferry!
I also didn't know that other browsers had the necessary plugin to download large files from MEGA! Is it Chrome (or Chromium)?
Chrome. <hangs head> I needed something that it had and my Chromium didn't. It was a while ago, and I can't remember what. Latest Flash, probably.
Firefox has always been the king for me, but there are other great browsers too!
My favourite has always been Konqueror. (Trinity version, of course.) But for some time now it has run unusably slowly, so I am reduced to using Iceweasel most of the time.

Have you tried gnash? It provides quite good Flash compatibility, but still needs quite much CPU power to run. I use it to have Flash support on my Raspberry Pi, since it also works on other platforms than x86.

John, once installed, you will see that the previous kernel (3.4.70?) is available in the boot menu, namely GRUB. Maybe it will work better for you than the 3.12.17 kernel.
-Alexandre
I'll give it a try and let you know. A quick backup and I'll let you know in a couple of hours.

Okay, for those who has problems downloading it from MEGA, here is the ISO, splitted in 2 parts, on FileFactory:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/7hcf7e1z4l5d/PCLinuxOS_no_TDE_remaster_30avr... http://www.filefactory.com/file/6xkq855jo9oh/PCLinuxOS_no_TDE_remaster_30avr...
You will need to use a complete archiving program, not Ark, preferably PeaZip or Q7Z or Xarchiver. The Md5 Sum is the same as in the first message.

Sorry still now working. It counts down and then attempts to redirect to sales page.

Alexandre The download I am doing now, was only a reaction on Kate's mail. It's guaranteed working, but .....snail mail is faster :-). Mega download had very reasonable speed !
BTW, http://lxer.com/module/newswire/ext_link.php?rid=201624
Will we be able to update ?
Thanks for a nice remaster
Tony
I tried it on several OSs here and at a friend's house.
It may actually be me ISP as it's total rubbish. It may consider mega and Filefactory "pirate sites".
I'll figure it out. Pity I was looking forward to trying it. The last one was so lovely.
I blame society for all this, and the lack of chocolate world wide.

If you are using Firefox, you may want to install an addon, called < DownThemAll >. This will/may.might/can speed up the download with a factor 4 ( in my case ). Also, it allows to < resume > halted/stopped/broken downloads. However, I am not sure if that resume goes for FileFactory too, but certainly works on "standard" http and ftp sites

Although I don't use it, I also want to thank Alexandre for his works on this remastered PCLOS+TDE. It's another piece that contributes to promote TDE and keep it alive.
