Hello,
I have a Gmail.com account mail. It works quite well with Webmail,
but no, with Kmail. I don't receive any mails (POP). (login and password are OK).
If I choose to receive only mails from Gmail, I receive : "login or password error".
If I choose to receive globally all the mails from others providers, also Gmail, no mails are received from Gmail and with no error message.
Bug with Kmail or with Gmail ?
Thanks
André

Hi,
I use gmail mainly as a spam filter, routing secondary mail accounts to gmail and forwading what has not been filtered to my main account.
I also forward my gmail mail to my main account (partly because gmail considers mail from my "private" mailserver as spam.
I work with kmail and I don't have any problem. I get the mail from gmail per Imap however (because I don't want html mail here but many companies use this and gmail handles such things, like flight tickets, quite well and keeps them there...).

I use zoho.com for most of my email, but keep a gmail account for certain things. It was a bother to get it working smoothly; Google wants to help me by asking for more and more information (phone number, etc.), and for a month or two my account would become inaccessible now and again, because I would login from different locations or on different machines, sometimes through webmail, sometimes using Kmail on my desktop computer, and so on. It was suggested to me that imap would be better than pop, but somehow I managed to get it working using just pop; might be because I don't go out so much any more, due to lockdown, so I don't login from other locations.
But anyway, if you have sorted out such issues already, then these settings work for me, with no changes over about three years or so.
Server supports ssl, but not tls? pop.gmail.com port 995
smtp.gmail.com 587 (but I don't generally send from my gmail account ...)

I don't think André is talking about forwarding email from Gmail, I guess he means he is using Gmail as an imap or pop server.

Then your mail server is probably badly configured. Gmail is very forgiving of private mail servers, unlike Yahoo.
I have run an announce-only mailing list with about 800 subscribers for five years or so, until recently it was being sent from a dynamic IP address in the middle of an untrusted address block. So once a month I would fire out 800 emails from a home mail server, and I have never had problems with Gmail. (Yahoo, on the other hand, grrrr...)
At the very least, you should have an SPF record set. You probably should relay your outgoing email via your ISP, who probably has a better spam reputation than you do. (Especially if it is a big, well-known ISP.) There are other things you can probably do too, which escape my mind right now, starting with *don't send spam* from your personal mail server, but I trust that last one goes without saying :-)

Sorry, I'm confused -- earlier you said you forwarded from Gmail to your mail account, now you say you fetch with imap. Have I misunderstood?

Actually its not mine, as I don't (usually) write to myself. Many times answers to gmail users were not received when sent fom a private domain.
I tend to have the same problem with my school's server that runs on Office365.

Can't say about its reputation. I got mail.decoulon.ch as smtp and use this, no idea how to "relay" my mail through my ISP.

Well that at least I think I can say I do :)

I do both:
- I have secondary mail adresses which get spam, so I fetch these mails with gmail, filter them there and forward them to my mail mail address.
- I fetch the mails of my "main" gmail address directly, through imap.

How do you have Kmail configured to receive email from Gmail? Please show us the settings you use (not the Gmail login and password of course, make sure you remove them).

Go into your Gmail account security settings. Access by third-party apps may not be enabled. Enable this setting and Kmail should then work.
Hi André,
two things to check:
1. In order to use KMail with GMail you need to allow access by less secure apps in GMail settings:

2. It might be helpful for you to chech the "I want to download emails on multiple email clients" question in the troubleshooting section here:
