apt is all you need for managing Debian packages, and your choice of
non-GUI editor for editing config files.
All true IF you know exactly what you want. But synaptics ability to search is worth a lot.
And I use nano, a lot. sudo nano runs anywhere. As pointed out previously this is a rootless install, and I am in the sudo group. But lightdm nor tdm-trinity know that so I can't use sudo
then. So something is fubar, but what?
Thanks Mike, Gene

synaptic can search as a regular user or you can use "apt-cache search" from the command line.
Better still is to do some in-depth research before installing ANYTHING.

Does TDE allow "sudo bash" from konsole? If not what happens?
Personally I prefer to allow local root login with a gnarly password but I block root ssh login.

If you left click and hold down on the "New Session" button at bottom left of the Konsole window you'll see several predefined sessions, including "Root Shell" and "Root Midnight Commander"; they have been there forever, AFAIK.

Gene disabled his root password and he's running gdm3 not TDE and I wish him well but ... I dunno, I just dunno. :-/
