I just upgraded kdm-trinity from: 3.5.13-0debian9+r1261450+pr19~squeeze to: 3.5.13-1debian0+ax3~squeeze
and also, kdmtheme-trinity from: 3.5.13-0debian9+r1248408+pr1~squeeze to: 3.5.13-1debian0+ax1~squeeze
And now themes do not seem to be working at all.
I also noticed that the rather long and profusely commented /etc/trinity/kdm/kdmrc was overwritten by kcontrol in admin mode when changing themes
Any suggestions for making themes work again?
Thanks! David
As KMail was my main reason for trialling Trinity, I'm really enjoying its proper and zippy performance.
But just one 'fly in the ointment':
Sometimes when requesting 'Fetch Mail' it comes back with this error that I have never seen before (KDE3 or 4):
"'Invalid response from server: Unable to complete LIST operation"
Googling for this shows there was an old bug report:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=127696
Until today it has always then worked with a repeat 'Fetch Mail', but today KMail just locked up. (So I re-booted into Mandriva 2010.2; it's KDE4 KMail did not complain when asked to Fetch Mail...)
Why is this happening with Trinity's KMail? (On Mageia-2)
On 11/12/2012 at 12:33 I said:
"'Invalid response from server: Unable to complete LIST operation"
I've just noticed that that error has not recurred since I disabled 'Leave Messages on Server"...
So it seems the bug is still there when that is Enabled. (Only if?)
On 11/12/2012 at 12:42 I said:
I've just noticed that that error has not recurred since I disabled 'Leave Messages on Server"...
Sadly it recurred just now, and 'Leave Messages on Server' is still disabled.
More seriously, shortly after that when KMail received incoming emails they were shown (in Inbox) with *empty* Subject, Date, From, and To fields, with the Source of the message as the Body... (This included a test email that I sent to myself.)
However, after logging out and back in again, the situation has reverted to normal.
Has anyone seen such a thing before? I haven't.
As KMail (1.9.10) was my main reason for trialling Trinity (3.5.13.1), I am becoming very uneasy with its stability*, and am considering giving up on Trinity - which I do not want to do..
(* I've noticed that KMail tends to misbehave immediately after the spurious "Unable to comoplete LIST operation' warning.)

It appears that this could be the same as the bug 737:
http://bugs.pearsoncomputing.net/show_bug.cgi?id=737
I'll try to apply the patch mentioned in this bug message.

Meaning there will be an updated version of KMail on the Trinity repository?
It would be good to be rid of that spurious error, but what is really worrying is what followed (blank header fields in newly fetched email).
I'll wait and see if it recurs with the modified KMail.
Many thanks! Regards,

Well, when that bug hit me I installed fetchmail and I am quite happy with it.

You mean it's a *known* bug?! Do you have a bug report reference number, please?
Re. Fetchmail, I was trying Trinity solely for KMail's freedom from Akonadification, and I shall stay with KMail for the time being, though - for the time being - not in Trinity.

Oh, it's quite an old bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=127696 http://forum.mandriva.com/en/viewtopic.php?t=79231
as in my case, my email provider "updated" his software and I had to work around.
Anyway, there are some other nice email clients around if you do not want to go the fetchmail road.

It seems like there were a few proposed solution on the kde bug page. Has anyone tried these out?

I looked at the history of the errors were resolved in svn commit:
http://websvn.kde.org/?revision=766946&view=revision
It is therefore a code that is already included in the TDE. For this reason, the error seems to be interesting bug:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=600907 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=230072
and patch from svn commit:
http://websvn.kde.org/?revision=1156867&view=revision
I'll incorporate this commit right now... and also backport it into v3.5.13-sru branch.

Fix from KDE SVN commit 766946 was already included before fork to TDE.
Fix from KDE SVN commit 1156867 I pushed into R14 (as well as into v3.5.13-sru branch) right now. I looked that similar code is also for IMAP kioslave and there has also been used memmove - not memcpy. From this perspective, the solution seems to be correct - after all, is also in KDE4.
Note: Soon I'll release test packages for 3.5.13.2, in which fix will be already included.

If you are using KDE3 / Trinity, so this patch was incorporated today == in May 2012 you could not test if it works. Only if you use KDE4, in which has patch already been included.. :)

But that's the 'LIST' bug. The killer for me was the other bug I described earlier today whereby newly-fetched email is show in Inbox with *empty headers* and the whole source file shown as the body.
In all my years of using KMail, I have never seen either error before...

I didn't think of 'fetchmail' as an email _client_. you don't use it to read email, you use it to fetch email via pop or something.
I thought the original suggestion then wasn't to _replace_ kmail with fetchmail but to have kmail read the mail fetchmail has downloaded.
perhaps I misunderstand.
I have no idea if it would solve the problem - I haven't read the bug report.
grüsse!

Yes, I wanted to suggest that as a workaround one could use fetchmail to download the mails, procmail for local delvery and kmail for reading and writing.
But some users have strong objections against a daemon fetching their mail, so maybe an other client gives a better feeling ... where one has to keep in mind that changing from maildir to mailbox format bears its own pitfalls like loosing any mail in one dark black moment ;-)
