well, things went *mostly* well with the upgrade. but this evening a started getting *many* segfaults re. artsd, at the rate of one every few seconds. each throws a window that grabs focus, making impossible even to see what's going on. we're talking hundreds of them. i can't even logout!
HELP!!!!
Thanks in advance.

Can't help you with the segfaults, but to shut it down you should be able to ctrl-alt-F2 to a shell, login, and 'init 6' to reboot. Just in case you didn't already know that.

nope. nothing happens until the damned popups are satisfied. had to resort to the brb.
of course, ubuntu *did install a load of crap, lest anyone ever look at a plain text screen. i had forgotten that three-quarters of a ubuntu install is unconfiguring splash screens and getting rid of crap alternative desktops.
goin back in. pray for me.

Did your upgrade omit both
base-installer/install-recommends=false and
APT::Install-Recommends "false";
???
What reason is there for a TDE user to install it on top of paternalistic Blingbuntu instead of a straight no-frills minimal Debian anyway?
I can't remember ever having trouble from artsd with TDE on Debian. Maybe one or both of these will help: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1646925 https://blog.sleeplessbeastie.eu/2015/03/02/how-to-verify-installed-packages...

i guess i did, inasmuch as i don't remember ever having ever heard of any of these before. is there a remedy for my failure to do them?
