I have been digging around the TDE documentation, as well as the TDE center to see if there is a way to change the TDE menu search function keybinding. I am pretty sure that there is an answer, as there must be others as well, using a non-US/UK keyboard layout. Any ideas?

Hi Brian,
Not completely sure what your asking, but this?:
Trinity Control Center >> Regional & Accessibility >> Keyboard Shortcuts

I don't mean to highjack this thread but it remerbered me of a small problem I have: Libre Office's spreadsheet uses F2 to edit a cell's content.
On my main computer now F2 (in any program) starts a small window about audio (says "audio" and a % value). I can't find anything in the keyboard shortcuts, it seems to be related to my keyboad (Cherry MX) as the F1,F2 and F3 keys control audio (and these keys do work).
I suspect some driver is overruling TDE's setup but I don't know where to look. I can move this function to another F key but I'd prefer to get it back where it belongs.

what is the "main computer" because on the "main computer" here F2 does not do anything. Try choosing a generic keyboard like Generic 105 key.
Another option if you have Fn key - what happens pressing Fn+F2 - I've seen those swapped by some bioses so that F-keys act as multimedia keys if Fn is not pressed

The main computer is a self build machine with a Gigabyte Ryzen motherboard. The (TDE) keyboard is Generic 105.

Fn+F2 has the same result. I thought it was some Linux driver issue but I did not think it coule be the BIOS. Don't remember to have seen any settings for function keys there however, but I'll take a look.

This I observed on HP notebooks.
Perhaps you try with another keyboard, just to eliminate the keyboard as source of the problem
if it is Generic 105 - what is the language and setup
setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout us
on Microsoft Multimedia keyboard (don't blame me for the M$ thing :) - it turned out M$ multimedia keyboard was the best I could find with wire/USB a normal key layout and multimedia keys. I don't understand why vendors start either putting the pipe key somewhere at random on the keyboard or just omit it)

Yes, it IS the keyboard, but there must be some software on the computer to react to whatever signal the keyboard sends.

Swiss french, no particular setup that I know about.

I also use M$ stuff, in my case a mouse that simply is the best I ever had (I even have a few spare to make sure I can use them in the future) :)
And as Torvalds is supposed to have said, M$ is not evil, they just make a crappy OS...

my wife uses swiss italian on Windows - never had the chance to motivate her to use anything else :)

may be you try with German (Switzerland) and select a variant with fr_nodeadkeys.

The BENQ Mouse I use, I bought in 2006. The mouse is simple thing - there are just few switches - you can not make a big mess out of this. The keyboards are a different beast. What upset me most here is the location of specific keys. First it started with different notbook manufacturers and now I see it also on the keyboards. Why the h**l they misplace the keys?!

Hi,
Nothing there. That was the first place that I looked. :)

I looked in the detailed documentation (read 'in the source code') and there I read that it can currently only be configured in the configuration file named "k_mnu.cpp". See:

Cheers

Hmm. Thank you for that Slávek. I agree with the comments in the source code. It sucks - big time. In KDE Plasma, the menu starts searching automatically, when text gets input. Perhaps an alternative? Not useful for my workflow as is, unfortunately. Thanks for digging in the source code. Brian

Created an issue on TGW to track this. https://mirror.git.trinitydesktop.org/gitea/TDE/tdebase/issues/176

Wow, wow. I was about to give up on Trinity, but discovered the Q4OS distribution with Trinity. While I haven’t decided what I think of their theming of Trinity yet, but they have the defaults that I need. Searching is really important as I use KXStudio, and you get al lot of nested stuff, particularly in the multimedia category.... Brian
Thanks to the effort of Philippe, it is now possible to customize the keyboard shortcut for the search field in the TDE Classic menu. Kicker -> Right click -> Configure Panel -> Menus tab -> TDE Menu Search -> Search shortcut.
Cheers Michele
