I have used KDE3 and KDE4 themes. I just download and install as appropriate via the relevant configuration tool. Accessible through KControl. You don't say what you are trying to adjust. One gottcha I hit: don't unzip a downloaded mouse theme.
I could give more detailed instructions if I knew what you were trying to change. I have personally recently downloaded and installed mouse themes and wallpapers/backgrounds.

Hello Lisi,
I tried this one : http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/domino-smooth?content=90608
That's a widget style. KDE3 widget styles contain C++ code which, due to changes in the theming system, need to have some changes made (QT -> TQT conversion) and then be recompiled in order for them to work with Trinity. There used to be some scripts knocking around that could help with the code changes, but they're not foolproof. You can open an RFE for the Domino style in Bugzilla, if you like.
Most other KDE3 theming elements should work, including backgrounds, icon themes, sound themes, mouse cursors, and I think tdm and amaroK themes might be okay, based on the examination I did of their structure. I'm not sure about window decoration styles.

Did you read the Help in the Theme Manager? It explains how to do it.
Don't you have the "Install New Themes" button at the bottom of the list of themes in Theme Manager?

This one didn't seem to work for me when I tried to do it prior to telling Nicolas. The Theme installer couldn't find the download. I haven't yet investigated why, but shall do so later and report back.

Thanks for your reply Lisi,
Maybe it could be an idea of a new "project" for TDE. We should make a "topic" on the wiki that list working theme and artworks on R14 and explain how to install it.

I've had no trouble before. But then I haven't blanket installed "artwork" before, only themes etc. For which you just use the relevant bit of the Control Center. I can't find "artwork" as a heading.

I tried to see what happened if I extracted it. Download Manager in 3.5.13.2 still can't see it.
For the moment I am out of ideas.
Over to you, Dan.

FWIW I downloaded another from the same stable and again Theme Manager can't see it.

Well, I have to admit I'd never done it before. I just tried a few from kde-look.org, and found that many are in formats that don't work as is, but need to be compiled or something. Those that download as a theme file with .kth extension seem to work, however. (...but some of them are rather hideous, and defeat the purpose of a simple, functional desktop.)
Just a caution repeated from the help file: If you have any customizations you want to save, be sure to create a theme to save them before changing to another theme.

Thanks - hadn't got as far as discovering that! I think I'll stick to backgrounds! I've obviously been lucky - but when you think how diverse the origins of that artwork are, it's no wonder that it is not totally consistent.
