tde-users is currently the main source of the spam I receive. In fact, all the spam in my Junk folder at the moment came from tde-users.
Slavek, is it possible with this mailing list software to do the suggestion I made a couple months ago? That is, have new users set to "Moderated" until they've made a legitimate post. That's been 100% effective at eliminating spam on mailing lists I've managed.

I take the time to create spam filters with kshowmail and kmail but I've been doing it so long it's second nature.
+1 to the moderation however.

If really needed just filter for hyperkitty in the mail header. All spam on TDE lists in the last year came from the web interface.

I can almost say the same.

Excellent idea.

Aaaand... 4 new spam messages from tde-users just today, so far. I'd hoped for at least a comment from Slavek on whether or not my suggested solution is possible.

My mail server runs SpamAssassin, but it gives these spams a very low score, so not even close to catching them. Thunderbird's junk filter misses most of them. And I don't see anything unique about them that I could filter on. The closest I can see is that they all come from a gmail address formatted as <name><number>@gmail.com, but so do a lot of legitimate posts, including yours.

That would have to be an extreme last-resort solution, because I don't see a way to do it without also filtering any legitimate posts that come via the web interface. Or is there something I'm missing?

I use Spamdrain (which is not a free service) because I wanted my mails filtered for my smartphone too. It does catch them (although it catches a few legitimate one too, from time to time).
So there should be a way to day they are spam.

There have been no such mails but from users calling for help 'cause their address got flaged as spam (I'm one victim). But that's not what the list is usually about.

Methinks people are too sensitive about the stupid nuisance that is SPAM, and don't give Slavek slack to do the most important things with the time he has to spend on the project. Same goes for other contributors. Their available time only goes so far. They're people, not robots. If and when time permits, I'm sure they'll do something about it if it's possible and still necessary.

The odd thing is, whilst I do receive the occasional spam here, I haven't received _any_ during the time span of this particular thread so not _all_ the patrons here are getting the spam you are. Probably vice-versa too. Odd.

It should not be down to developers to run the list, unless of course they are masochists :)

Some of us just delete them without complaining. :-)

Which is exactly what I do. I also occasionally make suggestions when it might be possible to improve something for everyone's benefit. If that offends you for some reason, deal with it and keep it to yourself.
I would never have imagined I'd see people defending leaving a mailing list open to spam, when it might be possible to easily eliminate it.

I agree. It's s simple thing to blocklist a spammer. If it's a unique domain, filter out the domain in both kmail or the like and kshowmail or the like. I barely get any spam using these tools and methods.
In kmail use both both filters and pop filters. There's also anti spam tools under tools.

The spam is a nuisance, yeah, but unless somebody wants to volunteer for the job, we ought to just let Slavek get to it when he has time.

P.S. By the way, I am having spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, baked beans, and spam.

Chuckle.. Sounds like you are getting edible spam, Bill. What I get isn't edible. Once you do business online with some outfit you are on their mailing list forever, getting a 2-3x daily bombardment for every new IC chip or potatoe peeler that's been on their shelf long enough to need dusting. How do you separate the spam from the order confirmation and tracking notices from the same outfit? The sales folks take advantage of the fact that you have done business with them and can't handily write a rule to separate the business from the BS. Since I'm a long retired JOAT, my spam here is, shall we say, varigated. It is a PITA, but then the delete key is only about 4" from the + key on my keyboards and both work just fine.
