Hi all,
we would like to inform you that as part of the migration of services to the new TDE server, new mailing lists have been created.
Accounts subscribed to the original MLs have not been migrated, because the consent previously granted to receive posts from those MLs cannot automatically be considered as an approval for the new MLs.
To ensure a smooth migration, an agent that forwards posts between old and new MLs has been setup. This allows time to subscribe to new MLs and unsubscribe from old MLs without missing any posts. The migration agent will be active until the end of October 2020, after which posts will no longer be forwarded and the old MLs may be deactivated any time.
Therefore please subscribe to the new MLs as soon as possible and unsubscribe from the old ones.
The full text of the announcement you can read in the archive of the tde-announcements mailing list - see https://mail.trinitydesktop.org/mailman3/....
To subscribe to the new MLs either use the webinterface:
https://mail.trinitydesktop.org/mailman3/
or send a blank mail to the address of this new ML:
users-join@trinitydesktop.org
To unsubscribe from the original ML, send a blank email to the address of the original ML:
trinity-users-unsubscribe@lists.pearsoncomputing.net
Thank you for your understanding.
Cheers -- Slávek

It is not necessary to create an account - it is possible to subscribe without creating an account.
The account is useful only if you would like to adjust the parameters of posting or use the web interface for reading / replying. In any case, there is no possible link to Bugzilla accounts - these are separate accounts.

I tried to subscribe by sending an email to the address provided, but after several tries, I got blank email responses, then a response to which I tried to send back my own response ... then Kmail crashed. I tried sending another subscription email, but never get a response.
The email sent to me by the server now contains no content. (See attachment for screenshot.)

Hi Bill,
that's very strange. What appears when you open the source code of a message ('v' key)? You can look at the eml / mbox content of the message - what does it look like? You'd better send the results to a private email.
Cheers

Hi Slavek,
I don't know if I can retrieve the rogue email in question. I already moved it to trash (following Michael's suggestion), and when I rebooted, it had disappeared. So, problem solved on my end, at least for that one item. Whether that is a sign of some deeper problem is another matter.
Source code of email doesn't look unusual. I could paste it here, but it's long.

The important thing is that it has been resolved - we probably don't need to investigate further. I assumed it could be some problem with the mailbox index in KMail.

If I understood what Slavek said, he means that for a while (until end of October) the two will be duplicated, but after that we must be subscribed to the new list.
As I said, though, I ran into some problems subscribing. I ended up with an empty, dead email in my inbox, which I cannot delete, to which I cannot respond, and now it seems I cannot send a new one in order to subscribe (maybe because it appears I have already tried, but not responded?).
Anyway ... it would be nice to feel included. :-[

Just like subscribing, you have to reply to the unsubscribe confirmation email in order to confirm and complete the process.

Once you subscribe in new MLs, there is no reason to stay subscribed in the old MLs.
The ML Migration Agent ensures that posts to old MLs are forwarded to new MLs => you get them, as well as posts to new MLs are forwarded to old MLs => users who are not yet subscribed in new MLs receive them.
Staying logged in to old MLs means that you will receive duplicate posts as long as the old MLs work or until you unsubscribe from the old MLs.
Cheers

I am offended that you ridicule my Native American heritage. (Actually, I have only a tiny bit, and do not identify as Native American at all, since I never knew anybody in my family who was such, but only heard about it. Still, now that's politically incorrect!)
Okay, seriously.... So I thought, what would Kokopelli do (or any other Trickster figure). And I copied the dead/empty email that's in my inbox to my TDE folder, where suddenly it reappeared in all its full glory; then I replied to the copy of the message, got back confirmation, etc., so it appears that I am subscribed to the new list, in spite of your best efforts to foil me.
The empty/dead email is still sticking there in my inbox, even though I tried deleting it, moving it to trash, etc. Whatever are my big problems with mail server or mail client, I cannot fathom them. Besides, why now? I have been using these in the same way since at least 2005 and the first steps into Linux land.

If at first you don’t succeed, go commando!
Uhm, wait!, go command-line!
Mail is usually in here: ~/.trinity/share/apps/kmail/mail
See if you can just delete it from the disk. Root it out if you have too ;)
Best, Michael Bringing new meaning to scare the pants off them since....

I got duplicate emails from both of you, one from each list, so that means you have both succeeded in subscribing.
Yay! so the new mailing list works. Rome wasn't built in a day.
My problems with email subscription, Kmail crashing, the ghost emails, etc., I believe might all be connected to my networking problems; which indeed are still not resolved. I think I got disconnected as I was trying to follow through on the subscription email, and somehow that corrupted the results.
As for networking, more on that later. Right now I am going through all the possible permutations of network-manager, network-manager-gnome, network-manager-tde, wicd, etc. At present, using wicd with no network-manager at all seems to be no better and no worse, but I still can't go online/offline at will, and am forced to reboot periodically.
Let me mess around with this networking a bit more, though, as I have got lots of great suggestions, but thus far none of them work for me.

Did you reply to confirm for the new list? These were the instructions I got.
Subject: confirm {huge string of junk} From: users-confirm+{huge string of junk}@trinitydesktop.org
"Before you can start using GNU Mailman at this site, you must first confirm that this is your email address. You can do this by replying to this message, keeping the Subject header intact."

Yes, messages will be duplicated on both old and new MLs till end of October. Registration through email should be quite smooth, but if you really have issues you can go to the web interface, create a user and register from there.
Cheers Michele

It appears that I have been subscribed to the new mailing list, having resorted to trickery. (I just copied the dead/empty email to my TDE folder, where it was revived, and responded to that.)
Now I am receiving emails from both lists. All I need to do is figure out why I have this lingering ghost in my inbox; but I've had that happen before, and they usually just go away. When I send myself emails from my phone, for example, this sometimes has happened; and I did just have Kmail crashing when I was trying to respond to emails, which started happening when I installed Beowulf/Buster recently.
I will wait to decide if this is a recurrent bug to be reported, or due to my own fault. Right now Kmail isn't crashing.

If I understood what Slavek said, he means that for a while (until end of October) the two will be duplicated, but after that we must be subscribed to the new list.
Yes, messages will be duplicated on both old and new MLs till end of October. Registration through email should be quite smooth, but if you really have issues you can go to the web interface, create a user and register from there.

Interesting I get following in gmail.

Hi all,
we would like to inform you that as part of the migration of services to the new TDE server, new mailing lists have been created.
What I do not understand is where do I get the news after unsubscribing, or on the client side is nothing changing?
I have no experience with using usenet news and I have no idea how to set the binding of the mailing list <=> usenet news. Is there anyone who knows?
Cheers

So it looks like we have to look into this. For now I am subscribed to old and new and the news client is subscribed to gmane.comp.desktop.trinity.user and devel. I am still getting the news here probably via the wrapper that you set up. As this is mail based I would assume there is somewhere something configured to use the gmane server.
Just visit https://admin.gmane.io/ and type Group=trinity, List=user, then follow the link (do the same for devel etc) .
There is a button at the bottom "Request data update" - might be worth trying - looks promising.
I find the gmane service a great thing and the TDE reader (knode) also.
cheers

Yes, I assume it works at the moment thanks to the migration agent.
Thanks for the link, I entered a request to update users, devels and announcements lists. We'll see what happens.
Cheers

Good news - a change to the settings on gmane.io has been accepted. I can see that gmane.io is now registered as a member of the mailing list, so it will properly receive new posts. Now it's a good idea to watch for a while if everything's okay.
Cheers

Thank you, Slavek! It is indeed good new. (view it as a test)

It looks like your reply was sent directly to a new mailing list, so everything looks fine.

Indeed it looks good. I am not sure if I have to unsubscribe the old list - is it really an old one because both are on gmane?
Groups on gmane are now linked to new mailing lists. So they receive posts from the new mailing list and also send replies to the new mailing list.
If you're subscribed to old MLs, to new MLs, and you're actually using newsgroups on gmane, then you seem to be getting duplicate emails from old MLs, new MLs, and none of those emails you're using. If you always read posts only on news groups, you may find sending posts to your mail unnecessary.
For the old ML, you can simply unsubscribe. For users who have not yet subscribed into the new MLs, their posts are automatically forwarded to the new MLs, and therefore to Gmane. So you don't need to receive emails from old MLs, or be subscribed there to send your posts.
For a new ML there is a need that you have been subscribed so that your posts can be sent there. However, when you create an account on Mailman, you can turn off the delivery of posts to your mail. This could be the perfect way for you.
Cheers

I successfully subscribed to the new lists, but my unsubscribe requests of the old lists of 24 hours ago have not been acknowledged.

Did you receive an email to confirm unsubscribing from the old ML? Did you check to see if it ended up in a spam folder?
Unfortunately for the old ML I can't do anything. If you don't manage to unsubscribe, there will be no choice but to wait until they are turned off... or set up a filter in your mail so that posts from old MLs are returned as undeliverable and unsubscribe may be done automatically in response to undeliverable posts.
Cheers

No.

Don't have a spam folder. Anything having anything to do with TDE gets filtered into it's own folder.

I'm not sure whether my client can return as undeliverable. I did just a moment ago retry unsubscribing both. So far, no response has appeared, only more ordinary thread posts.

My second attempts do unsubscribe seem to have worked. :-

Yesterday I tried to send unsubscribe requests on your behalf. As a result, you should have received confirmation emails. Apparently, one of the attempts was successful.
