In my last email I asked:
" How do you delete those local folders to set up KMAIL as MAIL DIR?"
It looks like the local folders that are there now, use .mbx format, because I see a COMPACT option, when you right click on the folders.
I am also needing to know how do I set up a MAILDIR directory to copy over from Evolution to KMAIL?
Thanks, Chris

The format is set in Settings/Configure kmail/Misc
In my case, it's maildir, and I do have the compact option in the menu.

Not sure, but I think if you copy your maildir messages in the mail directory (~/.trinity/share/apps/kmail/mail) kmail should (re)create it's index files. If your messages are allready in directories, I would create the corresponding directories in kmail and copy the files in those.
When I setup a new machine I usually copy the mail directory from my main machine (plus the kmail files from .trinity/share/config).
Maybe the import option can be used, but I can't test.
Thanks, Chris

I just googled what my issue could be and tried installing
akonadi-import-wizard
Nope, IMPORT is still greyed out in KMAIL.
I am just going to have to wait it out until someone can answer me, lol, I am STUMPED.

What kmail are you trying to use? AFAIK Akonadi belongs to KDE, and is not used by TDE.
There is no IMPORT in TDE's kmail. It should be File -> Import messages and it opens a window named KMailCVT Import tool that gives you access to the different import formats.

This is KMAIL 1.9.10
AH HA! I figured it out. I had to install TDEKMAILCVT.
For some reason that package was not installed.
I am now able to use KMAIL.
My Final question is, where does KMAIL store email? And how do I back it up.
in EVO, I just go to FILE > Make backup and it tar.gz's the whole directory for me.
Thanks, Chris

The mails are stored in .trinity/share/apps/kmail/mail
I have moved the kmail directory to another partition (it grows, and I like to keep my Home relatively small).
I don't know of a build-in backup, I simply compact the mail directory from time to time and save the archive, then delete "older" mails I don't expect to need. If I do need some old thing, I copy the current "mail" somewhere, restore the oder version, find my message, delete the "new" mail and restore the old one. Works for me.
kmail then sometime complan about the indexes and recreates them, but I haven't got problems with this.

Oh, you still have to compact the folders? In Evolution you don't have to, due to it using the MH Format.

The mails are stored in .trinity/share/apps/kmail/mail

Yes. IMO storing user data in an application's config space is BAD PRACTICE; and there is no user-oriented method for overriding this, the user has to discover where it is stored, then modify .trinity/share/config/kmailrc manually. :-(

If I could figure it out, without screwing up KMAIL, I TOTALLY would move my "mail" folder to /home.
That would be a lot easier to get to then having to navigate to:
.trinity/share/apps/kmail/mail

Impressive.
Another simple way: use konqueror. Assuming you have set "show hidden files" and use two panes:
In one pane open .trinity/share/apps/kmail In the other open home Copy the mail disrectory to home Click on that directory and drop in ./trinity/share/apps/kmail Choose "Link here" done

I already forgot what you are using ATM. I have setup a domain with mail and I use KMail with IMAP at a server we share with a small community. However it is hard to fight spam, otherwise it is working fine. I was also wondering to either pay for a spam filter tool or for a service. If Fastmail offers spam filtering (I bet they are) it is definitely a point. The other thing that developed in the past 10y or so is DKIM and SPF, so now it is very challenging to operate a SMTP server.

Lucky you!
If this is the concern, set up a free ProtonMail account and tell Reddit to send your mail there. If you want, it takes under five minutes to get and set up ElectronMail (https://github.com/vladimiry/ElectronMail), which will also annoy you with notifications.

The line | folders[$e]=$HOME/.trinity/share/apps/kmail/mail in the | [General] section of .trinity/share/config/kmailrc points to the location of the mail directory. You have to quit kmail, edit .trinity/share/config/kmailrc manually to change it, move the mail directory to its new location, then restart kmail. IMO it should be an option in kmail Settings.

Among free email services that are available, I always recommend Zoho mail. I won't say that they aren't as bad as the big guys, but so far I haven't noticed many problems in my day-to-day use, and I've been using it now for over five years.
There were a few bumps at the start, but support was helpful, and after some fiddling round to get it like I wanted, it has been smooth ever since. I only log into their webmaill page maybe once or twice a year, at most, usually just to look around and see if there have been any major changes.
There was another person, however, somebody on the list who was looking for an alternative to Gmail, and I recommended Zoho, then we haven't heard from her since. But maybe she changed her user name, ID, whatever, so that now she is somebody different on the list. (I have left her anonymous, just in case she prefers it like that.)
