I understand that the name was picked due to the desktop being a fork of KDE 3, but even on the website -> https://www.trinitydesktop.org/about.php: "The name Trinity was chosen partly because the word means "three" and TDE was a continuation of KDE 3. TDE now is its own computer desktop environment project."
It says that the name was picked only *partly* due to the word meaning three, so what was the other reason/part? Is it the Christian trinity?
Also the reason I think that the desktop was named after the Christian trinity is the fact it has a first-party, pre-installed Bible study app called Bible Time "bibletime"
Just really curious, hopefully someone has the full answer (preferably the founder himself lol).

You ask a question and then you say you think ... but you could think of 1000 more reasons with same probability of being true.
I would guess that it was three people that forked the project :)
Let's see who wins - the bets are on
BR
The name Trinity is also : -The name of a first nuclear test in USA (1945), - A first name for women, - Trinity Cartier (jewels collection), - A fantastic Desktop for Linux, - And many others...

Also carrots, celery, and onions in many cuisines.
Though if TDE is divinely inspired, it would go a long way in explaining why it is so good.

Trinity simply means three-fold or three-ness.
There are many trinities. There are even many religions with trinities. At least one religion - Hinduism - has multiple trinities.
What TDE is not is "Holy Trinity Desktop Environment".
If we're inventing folklore, I'd say Trinity came in part from TDE 3 and in part from the three sisters - squash, corn, and beans - which are all you really need.
I highly doubt the programmers who forked KDE at the time would have tied the identity of their new software to an irrelevant religious preference. It just seems silly. The word trinity comes from "tri" which comes from "three" and it probably does not go a whole lot deeper than that.
tde-meta does include a Bible studying app as you mentioned, but it is an optional install and just one of several miscellaneous tools thrown in.
The easiest explanation for Bibletime is that someone thought it was useful, made it, it spread, and it became a part of tde-meta. Much like the dozens of cloned games.

Since everyone is making theories here, let me also come up with one:
Trinity could be a portmaneau of "three" and "eternity". As in, KDE3 forever :)

Bibletime was not added to TDE; it existed/s in KDE3.

It could be added in the Bible : Desktop TDE is a miracle for Linux and for Linux adoption, (and too, farewell M$-Windows and Apple OS/X). Linux + TDE-Trinity saved my (computing) life. André

Who knows what was going on in the mind of Tim...
Creative guy that started a great project, he can call it whatever he wants :)
