If Konqueror is set to sort by type or mimetype, the sort indicator will appear on the appropriate column from then on, but the actual files will be sorted alphabetically. Google turns up nothing with "konqueror sort filetype site:pearsoncomputing.net", so maybe something's broken lower down on my system, as Caja has a similar problem (not Thunar, though). Anyone else notice this?
Hi Forrest Leeson (kool name if it's your name)
No sure if I understand what you're saying/asking.
I'm an avid konq user. Litterally on it everyday, all day. It's me primary power tool. Use it for video/audio/image conversion using servicemenus to konsole etc.
So if something is wrong I'd like to know.
Give me a step by step of how to recreate the error. You can also send me a small video of your actions for me to follow along if there's a language barriar.
Kate The Great and Annoying.

• open a folder • set sort column to file- or mimetype • close the folder • open a different folder • observe that the sort indicator persists on the file or mimetype column, but that the files are sorted by name
I infer this is because determining the file/mimetype requires examining the file's contents and the sort function doesn't get called after that's done.

Sorry to butt in here ...
If you mean the little triangular arrow that indicates how the column is sorted (alphabetically, by date, etc., as well as their reverse), the type of sorting persists on the last column that I click.
So, for example, I like to sort everything alphabetically; but sometimes it is useful to sort by last modified, or file size or file type, etc. Then I forget that I have clicked that column, and when I reboot, ALL my Konqueror windows (and I usually have a dozen or more open) are changed to the last clicked type. It is rather a pain, but this behavior has been the same since early KDE3 days.
I'm not sure if this is the problem to which you were referring, or not, but there it is.
Bill

Except on type or mimetype, where it just appears to persist: the sort indicator is on the Type column, but the files are actually sorted by name, meaning I have to click on the Type column every time.

Ah, so what you're saying is, konq resets to alpha sorting rather than file type. After a reboot or the like. No, that doesn't happen here. What distro are you using?

If I understood correctly... click on file type close konq relaunch konq and see if the setting remains. It does. When I relaunch konq, it's still set to sort by file type.

The setting remains, the function does not match the setting.

Confirmed and it is actually a bit more complex, in the sense it is intermittent depending on what column and direction is set up for sorting. I created an issue on TGW to keep track of this. https://mirror.git.trinitydesktop.org/gitea/TDE/tdebase/issues/152
Cheers Michele
