One can hide the konqueror sidebar by dragging the sidebar to the left border and/or by pressing F9. In previous versions prior to 14.1.3 the sidebar would remain hidden for new konqueror windows after doing this. However, this behaviour seems to have changed in 14.1.3. The sidebar now returns in new konqueror windows and there seems to be no way to keep it hidden?

Not here (14.1.4 through PSB). What distribution?

I see this, too, when I insert e.g. a usb flashdrive and konqeror is started on the mounted device. It does not happen when konqeror is opened manually.

No, not here. I insert an SD card and my konqueror opens without sidebar. 14.1.4~[Development] on MX-23

After some experiments I found that the strange sidebar behaviour only happens to a user with a new profile (empty /etc/skel, except for .bashrc, .bash_logout and .profile). If I put the trinity settings from a previous install or other machine still running 14.1.2 in /etc/skel, it bahaves as it should.
So, it is easy for me to solve the problem by just making sure no user starts with an empty profile, but I assume that the sidebar behaviour observed by me is not the intended way.
Regards,
Rody

Konqueror can be run with different profiles and you can save the profile anytime. It is likely your old profile was saved with the sidebar hidden and a new user profile with the sidebar open.

Thanks, this appears to be the case indeed.
