Also keep in mind that you should switch back to the original addresses once the hardware is fixed and the server is back online. Individual mirrors come and go with little or no warning to the end users; you may wake up one day and find that the hand-picked mirror no longer exists or is completely outdated.

Thanks all. I commented out the original addresses, the alternative ones worked like a charm and everything seems to have updates OK.

As soon as I have time to finish the setup I can switch to Trinity as my desktop (I've got used to AWN, but I still can't stand Nautilus).
