Thanks!! I could have sworn that I had looked in the Settings menu,
several times, but it is indeed there. Right click does not give Edit
Menu, just edit item.
But I still haven't managed to add an icon to the new menu entry. It's
odd that the Thunderbird tarball did not create a menu item with an
icon.

I just tested it by myself. I find some strange behavior. If you press
the 'edit item' entry you are in the TDE Menu Editor. There is a a little
square on the right upper side of the window. If you press it, the Select
Icon menu appears. What now is strange that I can chose some icons that
work (I really get a new icon in the menu) but for other icons I chose,
nothing changes.
Maybe test a few of those icons available to see if it is the same
problem.
Thank you, Gerhard! That worked and the Thunderbird entry now has an icon.
I think I'll now leave well alone! So I haven't worked through the other
icons to watch some of them failing.
Oh, I can't resist it. But later. I'll report back again.
It let me have everything except "mimetypes", any attempt to select which,
made it change back from whatever it was to a general blank.
I was going in and out of the one I actually wanted, because I kept changing
my mind and trying something else. This was mildly tedious because when I
clicked on "other icons" some directory I didn't want came up, and it
meant "browsing" to my Downloads folder and searching for the icon I wanted
all through the rather large (fortunately alphabetical) folder.
Then the last time I did it, I clicked on "other icons" - and was immediately
offered five only, including the one I wanted, no navigating at all. They
turned out, on further examination, to be the only 5 .png files in my
Downloads folder. Bizarre, or what??? Not that I am complaining! I don't
mind my system being inexplicably intelligent. I only mind when it is
unaccountably stupid. ;-)
Thanks for the help.
