Hi all!
I have konqueror set to a dark background with bright font. When I use icon view, things look great. But any list view uses the color from "alternative list background" that is set in tcontrol, which in my case is light to match the light background of all other windows with dark font. This leads to light/dark lines in konqueror (which I do not want, I want dark background and maybe a slightly lighter alaternating background). When I set alternative background to bdark, then konqueror looks fine but e.g. ark has zebra stripes.
Does anybody know of a way to make konqueror not use the alternative list background?

Set it to use an image background (View > Configure Background...). Make the image a large, plain or striped swatch of the background colour you want.

Now that's an elegant solution, thank you!

Hi, Nik!
Like yourself (I imagine), I am getting to that age where my old eyes don't like looking at computer screens with light backgrounds and dark fonts; I get watery eyes and a headache after an hour or so.
In Konqueror, you need to check both <Settings> and <View/Configure Background>; but it seems like you have already done that.
What you need to next is found in <TCC/Appearance & Themes/Colors/Alternate Background in Lists>. (I have attached two screenshots, one of Konqueror, one of TCC, which ought to be self-explanatory.)
For this last component, you may wish to search for a config file, with extension .kcsrc (in the old KDE3). The TDE equivalent for this file has the extension .kksrc, but otherwise they just reuse the same old KDE3 config.
* Small problem here: I forget where it's kept in Trinity. When I install my system, I now just run a command that copies over all my settings, the same settings that I've been using since 2006 or so, in KDE3 and then TDE. (I am doing a search, using Konqueror, but it's slow.)
** Two possible locations: /home/<USERNAME>/.kde/share/apps/kcmkeys -or- /opt/trinity/share/apps/kcmkeys (However, my desktop seems to obey the config file that resides in the first location. Somebody else can correct me, if this is wrong.)
If you can find this config file and save backups of your original and your customized settings, you'll save some headaches, because it's easier than trying to recreate your preferred appearance.
good luck

Which makes me wonder, which of these folders in .trinity/share/apps/ are actually in use? Lots of them are from 2011 ... hm ...

Sure, glad to share. Do you mean just the .kksrc config file, or the whole shebang?
I've been trying to figure out how to make my color scheme available to others, instead of the cookie-cutter default choices, but unless somebody draws me a map, I doubt that will happen. With a few broad hints, though, I could probably create a theme for TDE & perhaps others, like the newer KDEs, etc.

The Color scheme: you need to save it in TC, and it will be stored in ~/.trinity/share/apps/tdedisplay/color-schemes/HOW_YOU_NAMED_IT.kcsrc
If you save the whole theme, then it will appear in ~/.trinity/share/apps/kthememanager/themes/HOW_YOU_NAMED_IT.kth - basicly a tar.gz with different ending. There's also a folder ~/.trinity/share/apps/kthememanager/themes/HOW_YOU_NAMED_IT with the unpacked contents of the theme file. But it looks like the kmail color config is not part of the theme, nor is the konqueror background image.
Would be a nice thing to place themes on the trinity webpage or somewhere in the wiki.

I was waiting for your response, because I had another detail to add; but you seem to have found it on your own. The color scheme config file also resides in this location: ~/.trinity/share/apps/tdedisplay/color-schemes/HOW_YOU_NAMED_IT.kcsrc
So now I am sending two versions of my most recent color scheme config, in .kcsrc (which is KDE3) and .kksrc (TDE) config files; they ought to be almost the same, except that the TDE version has been subtly tweaked and retweaked. Otherwise only the extension is changed.
If you want to change the color of the lower panel to match, as well, then you need to use something like my source for background, which is an image file of a Zen ink drawing, with lots of space and few details. I'm glad to share that, too, though I have lost the source. (See attachments for my color scheme config files.)
Regarding the whole theme, I'll look into it. I've never created a theme before, other than how all the various config files in my system make it look; but I would like to be able to use it myself in the future on other machines, without having to go through so many steps. A tar.gz file, you say? I'll study on how to create a theme.

Hi, Nik!
Like yourself (I imagine), I am getting to that age where my old eyes don't like looking at computer screens with light backgrounds and dark fonts; I get watery eyes and a headache after an hour or so.
My problem, too :(
In Konqueror, you need to check both <Settings> and <View/Configure Background>; but it seems like you have already done that.
- Small problem here: I forget where it's kept in Trinity. When I
install my system, I now just run a command that copies over all my settings, the same settings that I've been using since 2006 or so, in KDE3 and then TDE.
If you can find this config file and save backups of your original and your customized settings, you'll save some headaches, because it's easier than trying to recreate your preferred appearance.
good luck
Bill
Ah... there did my colorschemes go ...: .trinity/share/apps/tdedisplay/color-schemes/NIK-hell.kcsrc .trinity/share/apps/kdisplay/color-schemes/NIK DUNKEL.kcsrc .trinity/share/apps/kdisplay/color-schemes/NIK GANZ DUNKEL.kcsrc .trinity/share/apps/kdisplay/color-schemes/NIK DUNKEL 2.kcsrc .trinity/share/apps/kdisplay/color-schemes/thememgr.kcsrc .trinity/share/apps/kdisplay/color-schemes/NIK.kcsrc .trinity/share/apps/kdisplay/color-schemes/NIK 2012-11-11.kcsrc
Moved them over from .trinity/share/apps/kdisplay/color-schemes/ to .trinity/share/apps/tdedisplay/color-schemes/ , now I'm back in the game, thank you :) I'm working my way through kmail now, looks like it has some settings I have totally forgotten ... (oh my, as time goes by ...)
Which makes me wonder, which of these folders in .trinity/share/apps/ are actually in use? Lots of them are from 2011 ... hm ...
Oh, would you mind sharing your colorscheme?
Nik
Sure, glad to share. Do you mean just the .kksrc config file, or the whole shebang?
I've been trying to figure out how to make my color scheme available to others, instead of the cookie-cutter default choices, but unless somebody draws me a map, I doubt that will happen. With a few broad hints, though, I could probably create a theme for TDE & perhaps others, like the newer KDEs, etc.
Bill
Nik
Bill
Thank you! Looks like the *.kksrc contains the keybindings.
Nik
Oh my! It's a good thing one of us actually reads these files. Somehow I got the mistaken notion that they were related. Duh. I don't know how that happened; I promise that I did read it, once upon a time (just like Moby Dick & Gravity's Rainbow), but now I doubt that I can prove it to anybody.
Well, anyway, the other is what I'm using now, more or less, though I might have adjusted this or that slightly. I'll look round for other versions.

P.S. I looked at those attachments, and they all seem to be wrong, so I've attached here two versions of my config file for current color scheme. Sorry about that. (They are dated from 2013 and 2016, last they were updated and saved.) I may also have yet more recent versions, but these ought to be pretty good.

The setting for the Konqueror background image seems to be kept in the XML file governing the current theme, which I found in a subdirectory of .trinity/share/apps/tdestyle/themes/ . The specific snippet goes:

Not sure how much good that does anyone, though.

Oh, that's a good one. I remember that I had to manually add the correct url="" thingy for the desktop background, too, and then add the image to the wallpaper directory in the thmes folder, and then repack the theme - otherwise the wallpaper image was not included.

Yes,
1) if background image is enabled, disable it; 2) kcontrol->Appearance & Themes->Colors-> Widget Color [Alternative Background in Lists]
Set to current dark color you are using, then use middle-mouse wheel to scroll the saturation up a few clicks (brighter) by just a few shades until you are happy.
I use a konqueror background of : #06080C and alternative background in lists: #0B1118 and konqueror text color : #C0C0C0
