Try removing this theme engine:
qt4-tqt-theme-engine
My Ubuntu R14 version was crashing on shutdown and removing that
engine solved the problem.

Yes it did, thank you Keith. So do this mean that my QT programs will no
longer have the Trinity theme?
I don't know about the theme. If it was installed and working then
that will probably be true. In my case I did not notice any
difference, but then I'm one of those persons who pay attention to
themes if they get in my way... <grin>
I think that it is the interaction of that theme with other software
and settings that cause the problem. There was no problem when I
installed R14, the problems came after several upgrades of Ubuntu and
a month of excessive customization of Trinity and Ubuntu.
