I've been using KMail since I gave up XFMail in 1998. No particular problems, until . . . I've been using ProtonMail since 2018. There is a utility called ProtonMail Bridge that runs on the local machine and unencrypts the mail so that a standard client can be used. It has behaved especially flakily in the last year or so. I raised the issue with the Proton people, who said that it works fine with Thunderbird. Which it might. I don't know and am disinclined to find out. To use the bridge, one sets the mail client -- KMail -- to point to 127.0.0.1 and port 1143. Everything else is as though pointing to an ordinary mail server. It uses imap. I store mail in maildir format. It sends and receives mostly just fine, with a few exceptions. The first is that it frequently, though not always, lists the same message twice in my KMail inbox, with the first listing being blank and undeletable. It shows as unread. The second listing is normal in every respect. The second KMail oddity is that if I use the "mark all messages as read" option in the inbox, it marks all those messages as *unread* on my tablet and phone, which are using he native ProtonMail Android app (under GrapheneOS, no bridge required). Likewise, if I have read a message on, say, the tablet and then read the same message in KMail, it becomes unread again on the tablet. All of this us over ProtonVPN as well. So I'm trying to find out what Thunderbird does that KMail doesn't, or what KMail does that Thunderbird doesn't, and how I can set up KMail so that its behavior emulates that of Thunderbird. Trinity thinks my phone is a camera, won't allow data file transfers.

I want to copy some files from my computer to my Samsung phone. I can connect them together, and a Konqueror window opens showing the phone's storage (attachment 1), but when I try to copy a file to it, I get a message, "Writing to camera is not supported." (attachment 2). The phone has two settings for file transfers: 1) "Transfer media files to a computer via an MTP connection." 2) "Transfer images and other files via a PTP connection if MTP is not supported." Using either connection method produces the same result. Is there a way to tell Trinity that it's a phone, not a camera? Leslie

Suggestions for a tiny screen

My eyes are no more what they were, however I've always likes the idea to run Linux on a tiny thing (got some Sharp Zaurus) and I've purchased a (second hand) GPD Pocket (I thing I got the idea from a post on this list). OK, so I've installed my favourite MX-Linux (and TDE) on it. However, the 1200x1920 screen has very tiny pixels and the setup is quite uneasy (with magnifying glass sometime), so before I poke everywhere to try, maybe someone here âlready went through sometiing like that and could suggest settings that work. I notices that TCC lists the sceen as "Philips PHL 273V7" but Internet search suggests it's a 27" monitor.... I would: Scaling? Can we do that in TDE? And this machine won't stand KDE (neither would I). xfce did a little better, not much. Change the screen size? I'd like to try something like 600x960 but nothing such is offered by TCC Thierry

Making Trinity aware of Java applications

My preferred text editor is jEdit, which is written in Java. Its installer doesn't create an icon in the Kicker menu, but using the Menu Editor, I can create one "manually;" but though I can use it to launch jEdit, TDE doesn't notice that it is running when I log out of my session and doesn't restore it when I log back in. I notice that if I right-click on the icon in my panel and select Configure jEdit Button and then in the Application tab, click on Advanced Options, an undocumented selector called DCOP registration with choices None (default), Multiple Instances, Single Instances, and Run Until Finished. Could this be a way to make TDE aware when this application is running so that it can restore it when a new session is started? Leslie
