I just installed a new kbd/mouse combo with only one common dongle. Exploring the row of extra keys above the Fkeys, I found the audio mute/volup/voldown worked but the one with a power off/on symbol crashed kded, and now that whole row of buttons is dead. And can't be restarted. But I was able to kill it with a root session of htop, and then I was able to restart it, and I think everthing is back to normal. Running as me, not root. Has systemd broken Debian this time?

So, I decided to try Debian 10. The install was uneventful. Fun started when I wanted to "remove" systemd, using the recipe given here before: install install sysv-rc and sysvinit-core. It worked but... it removed network-manager and lightdm (and others I did not have time to write down). AT the next reboot there is a looooong wait at: starting system message : dbus, then all I get is a command line login. I log and there is another delay before getting a prompt. Network in unreachable and I can hardly install without it :(( I had installed with xfce, I can try with some other DE. Or install TDE and hope removing systemd won't wreck everything beyond repair... Anyone got Buster running without systemd? Otherwise I'll wait for Devuan to release its Buster equivalent. Thierry

to adjust the brightness of the screen

Hello, On my laptop computer , the keys F11 and F12, adjusts the brightness of the screen. But on Debian-Stretch with trinity, these two keys do nothing. Before I could do that with "Configure your Desktop" and "Configure tdepowersave" with a scale from 0 to 100%. But now, it's gone. Any Idea to do that with Trinity or with F11 and F12 ? Buster+PSB screen flashes like crazy

Just upgraded my laptop from Stretch+R14 to Buster+PSB, after several successful test VPS upgrades. After logging in screen flashes like crazy and .xsession-errors mostly repeats (with different resource ids): X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3 Major opcode: 3 Minor opcode: 0 Resource id: 0x390a155 Also seeing a few of these: Error: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied) 10 Major opcode: 2 Minor opcode: 0 Resource id: 0x180001c And an occasional: unix_connect: can't connect to server (unix:/tmp/ksocket-mgb/bravo.y.n-262a-51c100e0) [artsd] There are already artsd objects registered, looking if they are active... [artsd] ... cleaned 5 unused mcop global references. However login screen is fine and I can login in Failsafe mode and then run firefox and kmail from konsole without problems. Any suggestions or anything I can do to help diagnose/debug problem? TIA, --Mike

PDF crash issue

It looks like there is a regression in the prerelease R14.0.7 whenever I double click a PDF file in Konqueror it crashes saying nspluginviewer caused the signal 11. If I right click and do open with Kpdf it opens fine. [image: image.png]

Whither 14.0.6?

I see 14.0.5 on Tim's server but it doesn't support Buster. I see 14.0.7 PSB on Slávek's server but there are problems with multiple displays and the churn rate is too high for our production use. I see another place which may have 14.0.6 but is restricted to developers only and which I'm not specifying here because of a possible security issue. I can't find 14.0.6 stable, other than some Ubuntu CD images. Whither 14.0.6 stable repository? TIA, --Mike

pulldown menu location

Greetings all; A wild keypress a couple months ago transferred the pulldown menu's that I am used to occupying the top line of a terminal border, to a white line across the top of the screen. It now has the pulldowns of any app that has pulldowns which has the mouse focus. IOW moved from the top of kmails window, to the top of the workspace window. Blank if the item with mouse focus, has no pulldowns. I can't get used to that and I'd like to put it back. What item in the tde control menu controls that? I've spent quite a bit of time wandering around in the TDE control menu's without finding it. Upgrading to Debian Buster

I'm wondering whether anyone managed to do a Debian Buster upgrade? Does TDE work with Buster? Are there important things to be aware of?
