Thanks for the suggestions about changing the paths in my home folder. Funny,
but it's been so long since I did it that I completely forgot it was in the
Trinity Control Center. I knew it had to be simple, because last time I
thought about it was at least 15 years ago, when I was a total n00b.
So here's another issue that suddenly reappears: Whenever I open some
programs, an icon automatically pops up in the systray. I can kill these, of
course, by running pkill ksystraycmd, but after I do this a few times within,
say ten minutes, I get tired of it.
Now, I don't mean to kill those icons that I actually want and use; for
example, smplayer puts an icon in the systray, and it is actually useful. But
when I first start the program, a second icon is generated, too, a sort of
ghost icon that serves no real function. This is the bugaboo that I want to
suppress, so that it is not generated in the first place.
Since I reinstalled my OS, I also inadvertently changed some of my paths, and
I believe that this might be a similar issue, because now some apps are
generating icons for the systray, apps that never generated icons there
before now.
This is annoying, as my systray gets cluttered with stuff I don't use; and
furthermore, I get duplicates on top of duplicates on top of yet more
duplicates. It's one thing to have smplayer's icon, as well as the ghost
icon; I kill it, doesn't come back until the next time. But now when I open
text files, I get a new icon for each new text file, so that I end up with a
dozen useless icons taking up space.
I did check TCC under these programs, and this isn't the same thing, where you
see a box to tick off for "Place in system tray"; these ghost icons are
something else.
Any help or suggestions are welcome.

Seems like it ought to be easy enough, especially as it's never happened
before, if memory serves me.
It's just that there are some folders I don't ever use, or which I have
already named myself; for example, my folders have always been named in lower
case, but now Konqueror is trying to do my thinking for me, so it has created
duplicate empty folders such as Music, Templates, Videos, etc., whereas mine
are named music, templates, videos, without the upper case. It doesn't rename
my folders, or mess with them, it just adds folders that I don't need, have
never used, and don't want, but whenever I try to delete them, Konqueror
immediately recreates these folders again.
I don't know how I got it like this, as I set up my system like this back in
about the years 2006-2008, when I was running KDE3. I want to keep things as
I had them. I don't want these duplicates, and don't want just to surrender
and rename all my folders in upper case, because that means I would have to
go searching through my system for changed file paths.
Anybody have a clue how to change this behavior in Konqueror? Thanks for any
help or suggestions!

I'm testing TDE 4:14.1.0 from PSB.
There's a thread here about a mysterious tdehwdevicetray
process which has been appearing in my systray.
While investigating this I tried to go into Trinity Control
Center / Peripherals / Device Manager. I enter the root
password but I don't get a Device Manager. If I put in the
wrong password it alerts me if I put in the correct password
I don't get a Device Manager.
Same happens with Trinity Control Center / System Administration
/ Monitor and Display.
Can anyone replicate this before I file a bug report?
Thanks,

I'm testing TDE 4:14.1.0 from PSB.
At least twice a "Device Manager" has appeared in my "Panel"
(part of my Kicker setup along with the "Main Panel" and the
"External Taskbar").
This Device Manager features two volumes: one is /boot/efi
and another which I suspect is a Windows Recovery partition
from when the laptop was first purchased.
I REALLY don't want this "Device Manager" appearing and
confusing and tempting end users.
This "Device Manager" is not listed when I right click to
"Remove From Panel" / Applet or Application.
How please do I prevent this "Device Manager" from appearing
here?
Thanks,

Hi all!
I just stumbled onto a problem in kmail that I think is present in 14.1.X but not earlier:
When "answering to mailinglist" the sender adress is always the last used address. It does not use the aDress I set in the mail folder settings for that specific folder.
Can somebody confirm this? I run kmail 4:14.1.0~s290-0debian12.0.1+11~a

Please do not email me anything that you are not comfortable also sharing with the NSA, CIA ...
I remember that someone on the User list works with CNC or some such, and I wonder if he
knows that CISA <https://www.cisa.gov> regularly issues advisories about Industrial
Control System vulnerabilities?

Greets, folks . . .
I'll not mention the three hours I spent yesterday trying to get the
Thinkpad wireless working again -- it had been off for a few days -- or
the multitude of diagnostics I ran, or how at the end I remembered the
little physical switch that turns wifi off and on. It was on, but when I
switched it off and then on again the wifi was suddenly fine. So, a
reminder: flip off/on switches at least once every 15 years or so.
No, won't mention that. But will mention something else that is driving me
(further) insane: On the Thinkpad I now have *two* keyring popups, one,
presumably gnomish, that wants my user password when I start the network,
and the other, genuine TDE, that pops up when I start KMail. It, too,
wants my user password but not my mail password. After entering these, all
proceeds as hoped.
I'd like to make them go away. I have searched the machine for any kind og
keyring configuration file for either of these things, and have come up
empty. The TDE Wallet Service version says "The application 'kmail' had
requested to open the wallet 'kdewallet.' Please enter the password for
this wallet below."
Anyone know how I can make these things stop? I don't have anything running
that I don't have running on the desktop machine, where I do not get the
popups.

This has come up before, and gets discussed, but the problem seems to remain.
Is there some way that we can get the mailing list to hide our personal emails
from public view?
I created an email template just for the TDE mailing list, so that my "reply
to" address gives <users(a)trinitydesktop.org> as my email, so this works
pretty well. But if I click to reply to somebody else's post, then I find
that I often send an email directly to their personal address, and that my
personal email address is also exposed.
So far as I know, there is not a bad person who participates in this mailing
list, and I don't mind if I get sent an email directly from anybody here,
whether intentionally or by mistake. I often do the same to others. But it
would be nice if we could keep our email addresses from being exposed to
public view, and we all know some of the reasons: email harvesters and
spammers and phishers and so on.

Hi everyone,
so far donations to the TDE project have always ended up to Tim. Although he is the founder of the project, he has not
really been involved in the daily matters and development for several years.
In the past there has been talks to establish a non-profit TDE organization, but this has yet to happen.
With release R14.1.0 coming soon, I would like to propose for donations to be temporarily redirected to Slavek, till the
TDE non profit organization is established. Once the organization comes to birth, the amount of donations can be
transferred over to it.
A transparent public account of donations could be setup, so everyone would be free to see how donations would be used.
If Slavek needed to pay additional taxes due to the temporary donation income, I suggest those would be paid out of the
donations themselves.
What is your opinion? There is about a month before R14.1.0 is released, so it would probably leave just enough time to
prepare the new setup.
Cheers
Michele
